Default non-mechanical vibration at 2000 rpm

Ok-my only issue so far with my 06 xb was solved here, so here is another thing that has been buggin me.... The box runs great, shifts smooth, runs good rpm/mph. But at 2000 rpm (both when I first take off and when I slow to 2000rpm) there is a pretty loud vibration noise from the back. It only last until I get over 2000, or under about 1700 if Im slowing down. I have figured out it is louder from the inside than the outside, and I have checked all the obvious....muffler and all exhaust is tight, nothing loose underneath. I took out the spare and pulled up the carpet underneath and I think the problem is there. The floor covering the spare area doesnt sit quite right, even though the styrofoam stuff underneath is sitting flush on the bottom. Under the carpet (under the spare) there is a big plastic piece that I guess is filler between the bottom of the body and the cargo area. I think this might be the source of the vibration but it seems stable and secure.....could this be my problem? Anyone else had this problem??? Thanks guys...

I have an Xa and had a similar problem. I would hear a rattling at low rpms, then it would disappear at higher rpms. It turns out for me that my exhaust was banging on the underside of my car. Specifically, it was the part of the exhaust furthest back. It was the part of the muffler that bends to the side then connects to the rest of the exhaust. It would bang on the silver heat shield that was above it. I simply wrapped it up with heatwrap (the stuff you use on headers) and that solved my problem. If you want I could take some pics. I also realize that you said you checked your exhaust, but the thing is, mine was bolted securely aswell, but it would still make that annoying rattling noise at low rpms.

I hope this helps, let us know how it goes.

That would be good, if you could send pics of where it was rattling. The sound seems to be coming from inside, BUT, I made my hubby get into the back (which was pretty damn funny to watch) and he said the sound was coming from directly underneath him. I did check the exhaust and the heat shields, and all are tight...but at this point I will try anything to stop the vibration... Thanks!
