normal oil pressure
I gotta '05 xB and was wondering what the normal operating oil pressure range is. the owners paperwork is vague and I've read some conflcting posts.
I tried to search it, but, well I'm in my 30's now and life is too short.

peterbilt, I just installed gauges in my xb and the oil pressure is running over 100psi at startup. As soon as it warms up to 180 or so it will drop to 90 or so. At idle warmed up it will drop to 25 to 30 lbs. I am running the Amsoil 10w30 synthetic .
I checked the manual on this forum and it states that the normal pressure is 55 to 80 OR HIGHER at normal temp and 3000 rpm.
Because of these factors I have ordered a new gauge that goes to 150 psi.
In my younger days I would have been very concerned with oil pressure that high, but when you look at the design of this engine it really does not surprise me.
Hope this helps.

I was considering putting in an oil pressure gauge also. I've been checking online and haven't found any oil press. gauges that go up to 150 psi that are electrical. They all seem to be mechanical.
Anyone know of any 150 psi electrical gauges?

Normal Oil Pressure
Hey Newtmaker,
Did your oil pressure gauge come with the big sender and if I remember you used the AC Autotechnic adapter at the oil filter mount and did it have enough room?
Thanks
John

Yes, it came with the big sender and there is plenty of room. The adapter has 4 tapped holes with plugs and depending on what type sender or adapter you wanted to plug in, I guess you could use all four. Just can't imagine what you would use beyond temp and pressure!!
You will need a 1 1/16 deep socket to screw in the oil filter fitting that hold the adapter in place of the oil filter. At that time you decide what angle/position to have the adapter. It's a little tricky holding the adapter while tightening the fitting because it wants to turn also.
