Perrin Short Throw Installed
Well, I tackled this install today, and it really wasn't difficult. Sorry, no pictures. I tend to forget steps when I worry about taking pictures. It was time consuming because of the trial and error with the trimming. Yes, there's trimming.
To run the shifter as short as possible, you have to trim the plastic that creates your shifter block. The front needs to be trimmed were the linkage on the right (while sitting in the seat) so that the linkage doesn't rub/bind on the plastic. You will also need to trim the plastic by the right rear bolt so that the shifter doesn't hit it while going into first.
Once that's done though, the improvement is incredible. Well over 1/2 the travel is gone. I don't feel like I'm driving an 18 wheeler anymore!
The shift **** has been lowered, but my arms are long, and I have no problems with it. The top of the **** is about the height of the top of the ashtray. It's not lowered too, too much, but it is noticeable from the bunching of the shift boot.
The quality of this piece is great. I really like all of the adjustability. Height, throw, and angle are all adjustable. Unfortunately, the height and throw are directly related, but the angle is quite a nice touch. By being able to angle the shifter towards the driver, the reduced height isn't as noticeable.
I'd highly recommend this shifter to anyone looking for a quality short throw. I'll get pictures of everything all buttoned up tomorrow.
