POssible Engine Swap
#21
when I said a ford focus engine, it was an example that came to my mind when I was writing, just because they're relatively equal in size... but anyway, where could someone find out more about a 2zz???

I'm definetely not trying to pee in your Cheerios, but it's been my experience that it's much easier to mod the original engine, or atleast stick w/ the same auto manufacturer as far as an engine swap goes.
I would not recommend replacing a well built / reliable Toyota powerplant with a Ford engine. It may have more initial horse power, but the Toyota will be running when the Ford 4 banger is nothing but a huge paper weight.
Put a twin-turbo Toyota V8 in a Scion & convert it to rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Now, that's a plan worth discussing.........

ep82 4ef-te is a good choice too...havent thought of that...some have had success putting these into tercels and paseos....so again, pretty do-able...3sgte on the other hand....whole lotta work...think about it.....this monster can and will shred the stock xa/xb gearbox in a second...not to mention render first and second gear useless...you would have to retro a celica trans to work within the confines of an xa/xb....Major work.....and if you have high aspirations...dare i say 4trac lay out?? Guess if you bought your car right out and paid cash, you wouldnt worry about your warranty..but some of us still rely on it...im waiting for the warranty to be done.....then ill go nuts..lol..

any numbers on the 1.3? dyno? i've always liked that engine ..

The intent was to drive it upto norcal so I could show it to stylis, evildave, etc... but it's in bad shape. AC blew, oil from 3 different spots, radiator fluid, turbo has bad shaft play (problems left and right)...but initially the swap cost under $1500 for an engine capable of 200hp relatively stock.
Truly the best swap for the car is a 5efte setup. 5efe engine then 4efte turbo kit and do internals and you're in the 350hp mark. The engine is light, 1.5L, and can take abuse like crazy.
2ZZ is easy as well but the engine itself is no where near worth the cost...runs you about $2600+.

EXACTLY...just cuz it isn't a "showcar" engine and you go down to 1.3L doesn't mean your wasting money. Lets see the stock internals on a 1nz be able to hold 18psi.
That people is money well thought out.
