prius pistons
#41
Anyone know if you can order just 1 prius piston from the dealer? Anyone got a spare 1NZ laying around to clay the clearances?
Bore and stroke are the same, so the piston should at least drop in easily. Would be nice to know the chamber volume of the prius, and to see if the headgasket is the same thickness.
On MLS head gaskets, there's usually a thick layer that can be removed without any side effects. It's equal to milling the head .020" (or whatever thickness the removed layer is), but it's completely reversible. That's another something to try.

We all know the 1NZ-FXE has higher compression, but the bore and stroke is the same as the 1NZ-FE, so doesn't that mean the pistons are roughly the same for equal displacement?
I'm trying to read this page to see if the pistons on the Prius generate the higher compression ratio, and I don't see where it says it does:

As far as I can tell the higher compression is because of the Atkinson cycle, maybe because of the reduced pumping loss? I dunno really.
I just don't see where Prius pistons would improve performance in any way.

how wouldn't it improve performance? HIGHER COMPRESSION.
i just learned about a guy who put prius pistons in his 1nzfe echo and got pretty decent gains.
the atkinson cycles doesnt change compression.

and the point of that was? to show bore x stroke? or a lower power output?
i promote for toyota. work with the cars every day almost.
the reason the hp is low is because of the atkinson cycle burns the fuel better and cleaner but has less power.

"What up man? Here are the specs you were asking for:
1nzfe Echo Coupe with Prius pistons
-13:0:1 compression ratio, with tuning made 13whp Other mods include axle back exhaust.
Good luck."
Also from other info on other technical specs, the compression is actual piston specs, the head doesn't influence the compression results if swapped.. Atleast, thats what i've gathered.

I am going to ask my Dad to explain it because there is something I don't understand in engines with the same bore and stroke would have different compression based on the pistons. I read this but didn't find the explaination I was looking for:

i should correct myself the change of bore and stroke can affect the comp ratio. but if theyre the samle bore and stroke the ratio can furter ( most commonly ) changed via the shape , and dome design of the piston

You guys are making it more difficult than what it is. Its either the piston compression itself, or its the design of the hybrid that is allowing the compression to be higher vs. what they would put out on a standard motor. Which of course, according to a friend of mine in atlanta its the pistons not the design.
