I'd love to see it done. Don't know if it is worth it on a $15K car though. BTW, I have a 1993 Mazda RX-7. So, I would find it interesting. You might want to think of which engine and the reliability factor of it. My 7 is known as the 3rd gen. I didn't realize that it meant on my 3rd "EnGen" But, I love it still, turns heads everywhere, quick, nimble, and definitely a money pit. Over $20K invested into it over the price of the car. Not saying I have over $20K in the car right now, just buying, selling, and fixing parts. It's still my baby.

yea good lick with that. for one the motor is FR so either youd have to convert xB to FR, or make rotor motor FF. only thing about that is, there IS no FF made rotary motor out there. all the fcs, cosmos, fds, all FR. just drop a 2zz if your thaat desperate for more power. its almost imposible, well i dont like that word so lets use improbable, to drop a rotary into ANY FF car. i dont wanna burst anything though, dont let me stop you, if you wanna go for it, go right ahead. have a good day

Theres been no siginificant motor swap such as a rotory swap in an xb.

Just remember one thing, even if you actually got the motor in the bay you have the pain in the **** job of converting the drivetrain to RWD.

Good luck and let me know what happens.

I like the idea since a rotary engine weighs less than a piston engine, but they are money pits. They are also good because they use the 89 octane unless they have FI. They lack torque though. If you are looking for high speed runs that's great, That's what the engine was built for. It's a good idea, but as all the others have stated unless you have a money tree growing in your back yard then I do not see it happening.

First of all, someone already asked about this... do a search and see what the original verdict was.

1.FR... you need custom driveshaft and custom rear end. Lots of fab, lots of headache.
2. Rotary... probably gonna have to rebuild the motor while it's out... apex seals don't like age.
3. Mounting the motor... custom engine mounts are gonna be needed.
4. Wiring... what a nightmare this is going to be.
5. Custom fuel lines, intercooler, radiator, exhaust, etc.
6. Clearance... is there enough room? Probably not with the tranny and the firewall.

You want rotary, buy an RX7. It's pretty much a pipe dream, though in a recent Option issue, there was a 13B swap in a WRX. Still retained 4WD too.

That was a pretty immature responce. Any motor can be done so long as you have the money to back up the project with converting motor mounts, firewall, extending frames, cutting frames, converting drivetrains, so on so forth. But to use maturity as an excuse to down the idea is pretty ridiculous.

This topic has been discussed several times in the past as they have said. Rotorys, 1zz's, 2zz's, 2az's, 2jz's all these motors have been discussed for various swaps.

Search.

It can be done and its not as hard or as expensive as you may think ... You just need to do a little out of the box thinking .. no pun intended. I already have it in the works, PM me and I will share some of my secrets.

The funny thing is, that it would almost be a natural conversion, because the way the engine lays out the exhaust fall on the back side and the intake on the front. In my case and to simplify my life, we will likely be using an old RX-7 motor 13b in order to use a carburetor setup and by pass all the computer BS.

This is no overnight project for me because of my life but it can happen. So PM and I will help anyone I can.

Thanks

Thats cool and all, it will be awesome when you are done, if you get that far. But just converting the drivetrain is a paint and cost a lot of money itself. Also, frame will have to be cut, firewall may need to be pushed back, who knows what else until its actually done.

Like I said before you guys are making this into a monster of a job. I will be doing this using the stock tranny. It will be a front wheel drive rotary. It is possible and it is being done ...

So while the xB is designed to handle a RWD set up because of its AWD set up in Japan, its not the only option ..

^^^^ was about to say the same people are putting s2k engiens in del sols and CRV engines in civics and those engines are coming from RWD vehcials hell ive see the 2AZ mounted in the celica. So its possible, plus as Trikk said bB has optional AWD so just a matter of getting it done.
