Short Ram Air Intakes

Short Ram Air Intakes
I purchased a Bomz Short Ram Air Intake off ebay a while back (like march) and something just told me not to install it....after doing what I should of done before I made the purchase (research) I saw some peeps on forums talk about Intakes very similar to mine...
as you can see from the picture it has a smaller filter for the whatchmacallit
I got the impression that is is better to have the whatchmacallit hose go directly into the intake pipe instead of a seperate filter......
any SME (Subject Matter Expert) out there that can clue me in?
Thanks!

That intake looks very simulair to all the short rams on the market... the one difference is the tiny filter. The tiny filter goes on the pcv outlet on the motor and allows it to vent to atmosphere.. On all the other shortrams there is an inlet on the intake it self for the breather hose/pcv to go back into the intake with the small amounts of oil that it carries thru it to go back into the engine.. Please let me know if I confused you and I will try and find pics for you.

I keep seeing the ones with the hose going back to the RAM pipe....I was curious what the disadvantages would be to put this on (with the mini filter) instead of one that has a hose that connects to the RAM pipe..
Anything I should be concerned about?

allrighty then!
...in that case I will install it and just keep an eye on the little filter and see how much oil actually comes out...if it gets that noticable I will switch to something else.....
...or if someone else posts and tells me what a misake this intake is....
thanks for the insight

Somthing I just thought about..if the filter strts to get oil all in it..you can get an oil catch can and have it vent to atmoshere.. then you can just clean the can when it gets full. Somthing simulair to this: http://www.zeropointindustries.net/s...products_id=33

intresting....from the quick little blurb on it, "you can prevent oil from being sucked into your vehicles intake tract" , it makes it sound like you wouldn't want the oil to go back in anyway..

It is against Federal smog laws to vent crankcase fumes to atmosphere, if you do, your breaking the law.( just to let you know)
Now, the reason you should not install it that way is because the tube running to the intake(the breather tube) keeps the accumulation of moisture in your engine.Which cause problems ( sludge will look like a Frappucino from starbucks). With out drawing the moisture vapors out, it builds up and fouls the oil.
Our cars are known to be "Sludge Monsters" anyway, the main reason to change oil every 3k miles. By venting the crankcase to atmosphere you are not drawing it like it needs to be.
Just be aware that if you need a visual inspection, or get one by Johnny Law along side the road, your car may get impounded, get a fine, that sort of thing.
