Default So I put my TRD Quickshifter in yesterday...

first the install was easy since I have had my stock shifter out before to lower the shifter height. I like the TRD one. the shift travel distance isn't dramtic but it is a little shorter. I noticed the TRD is the same height as the stock shifter but bent towards the rear just a little more. since I had the shifter out I decided to cut the shifter and weld it back at a different angle. I'll post some pics tonight of it.

thanks to Ken at TRDSparks for answering all my questions and having the TRD in stock.

congratrs, I just installed mine too. Really easy install. The shifts are a bit crisper and "notchier". I think it was worth the $.

Does it shift smoother? I notice the xB has some pretty notchy first and second shifts.

Does it stop the grinding if you shift into 2nd REALLY quickly?

It's almost like 2nd doesn't like engage when you're shifting like a bat out of hell.

Ok, here is my step-by-step walkthrough on my TRD Quickshifter:

Tools you will need are:
needle nose plyers
10mm socket
12mm socket

First get a TRD Quickshifter
[img][/img]

now remove the small carpet cover in the back of the center console and remove (1) 10mm bolt
[img][/img]

remove the filler plate in front of the E-brake by just lifting up
[img][/img]

unscrew the shiftknob
[img][/img]

now lift up on the center console and remove. the front is held in by (2) plastic clips
[img][/img]

you need to unclip the wire harness attached to the shifter base
[img][/img]

using a 12mm socket, remove the (4) 12mm bolts around the shifter base
[img][/img]

looking from the drivers side there is a retaining clip that needs to be removed with needle nose plyers from one of the linkages, then pull the linkage off the post
[img][/img]

using the needle nose plyers unclip the retaining clip from the linkage in the middle of the shifter base
[img][/img]

lift up on the (2) linkages from the front of the shifter base to remove
[img][/img]

At this point you should be able to remove the shifter. To install the TRD one just follow the steps in reverse. one thing to make sure is that when you reinstall the linkage on the drivers side make sure the rough edge is facing up
[img][/img]

so that's it. It shouldn't take you very long, between 20-45 minutes, to install. I've done some modifications to my TRD shifter so I will post some more pics later.

If the TRD shifts faster, it will just make your problem worse. You need a trans oil that increases the synchro friction. Get Redline MT-90. See topic at:

It is either a transmission issue or an issue with the driver.

hmm.... I highly doubt it's me. This isn't the first manual car I've driven okay?

From what I've heard changing the tranny fluid eliminates the grinding into 2nd.

yep. the only difference is if the Quickshifter doesn't come with the base. it might be just the shifter stick. the B&M one I think is just that. That is why I went to the TRD one. I figured it was less hassle.

One of the benefits of the TRD shifter is that the throws forward are futher away from the cupholders giving more room to grab drinks. It also works very well and takes up the slop that the stock one has. No grind in shifting mine, but I hardly ever do any quick shifting. I was surprised the stock base sits on rubber grommets and the TRD sits on solid brass spacers.

Hmm... with the big Zeta Gen 2 storage armrest down, it is already a little awkward to use the stock shifter. The front end of the long armrest shadows the shifter **** so it does not "fall to hand", as expression goes. So I lay my forearm on the armrest and let the fingers do the shifting.

Since the TRD shifter places the **** further back, it might be incompatible with the big Zeta armrest. Also, I am not disatisfied with the stock shifter, and would want to try someone's TRD before deciding to buy it.
