I believe that the original reason for removing the snorkel, as posted in the original thread, was to improve fuel efficiency. Butt dyno gains were a side-effect.

^Right. Removin the snorkel + a drop in filter will improve fuel economy, make ur intake n exhaust sound more throaty, and improves ur throttle response. SRI or a CAI is just takein it to the next level.

Dropped in a TRD Filter and removed snorkel...

made my TRD Exhaust quiet and seem to be going thru gas quicker since I killed a 1/4 tank in a couple of daily driving trips. go figure.

a cai or a short ram is an upgrade from no snorkel, but those add hp and fuel economy. just taking off the snorkel adds fuel economy and a little bit of difference when driving. it is NOT a forced intro thing, so everyone expecting like a 380% hp gain are crazy. even those expecting anything big are crazy. it just adds milage (i got 1-2mpg gain!) for free. i have no job, and live at home (im in high school) i cant spend heaping gobs of money. since this is free, id say do it![/quote]

Sorry to go off topic, but are those Ford Festiva tires on that xB in the video? They look extremely narrow. What size are you running?

i took a look at my airbox today because i wanted to remove the snorkel and do all that stuff.

by any chance does anyone have a picture of where the snorkel would be?

if you remove the snorkel, without putting a k&n drop in filter, or anything like that, would it still be fuel efficient and have the same effects?

and are there any dangers to removing the snorkel..?

oh and btw
i just removed the snorkel and put in a k&n air filter..
i also reseted the EFI fuse.

when i started the car and let it idle for 5 - 10 minutes.. i didn't hear much of a difference coming into the airbox..

was i expecting too much? i did feel a small difference in the throttle though..

Why stop at the snorkel....cut the bottom out of the airbox. I have a K&N Filter and removed the snorkel....the intake is louder.at a high rpm (5K)....didnt really notice any exaust (at least not as loud as a new muffler)...but really....if you cut the airbox apart you would have a cheap intake mod....
