Tranmission Cooler
For you guys with the automatics,
Do you think if you do alot of spirited driving and lots of heavy traffic driving a transmission cooler would be good? Reson for my question is just the size of vehicle vs. motor/trany combo.
I know having a cooler transmission will extend the life of the transmission. I know you can get a decent transmission cooler for not alot of money or go for something like the blitz tranny cooler.
Not doing any towing but you get 3 of your friends in the vehicle the car gets really heavy really fast. Would that create good buildup of heat that a cooler be beneficial?

I do not remember seeing one infront of the radiator. I have not looked behind it. I just wondered because I saw a Blitz unit offered in a Scion buyers guide in some magazine that had a Crazy 533hp TC on the cover.
I just know a cooler tranny means a happy tranny!

xb trans cooler
take a look at the radiator.. wayyyy at the bottom theres 2 steel lines that are fitted into the bottom of the radiator...... thats your tranny cooler.. its a water to water cooler. instead of a water to air cooler like on HD trucks n such

Actually it's a trans fluid to water cooler but you've got the right idea. The important thing to remember is that it is also a trans fluid HEATER. The stock setup is all you will ever need and I would not recommend an external cooler. Many old hot-rod tricks are just wrong for todays cars and this is one of those (but by no means the most flagrant example!). The quicker warming of the fluid is more benificial to longevity and economy and PERFORMANCE! The most important thing to consider is that Toyota transmissions rarely fail so in reality money would be better spent actually protecting the other parts of the car that actually wear faster than the drivetrain. Things like ClearBras, seat covers, floor mats,etc............Proper maintainence should result in engine and transmission wear being the least of your worries.

Thank you guys!
I forgot the newer cars have the tranny cooler built in the radiator.
Scott17 you have a valid point, the tranny does need warm up for optimal performance, the external cooler definetly prevent that from happening.
I will be spending my money elsewhere.
