Default "Universal" Catalytic Converter?

Hey all-

Got a check engine light a while back, brought it to my mechanic, he said the catalytic converter won't pass inspection. I don't have to have it inspected till June, but I figure I should try and get it done sooner rather than later. My question is, is buying a "universal" CC a good idea? Here's the one I'm thinking of getting:

Also wondering what a reasonable quote for install would be. Any thoughts are appreciated.

what year is the car and how many miles are on it?

anyway, figure out exactly what the CEL code is for to make sure it is something to do with the catalytic converter or if it is just a bad O2 sensor or whatever.

as for a universal one. not much difference between them, so long as the piping diamter is correct.

2004 with about 36k. They reset the code, I'm not sure if it will pop up again, but I've got a ODB reader now so if it does I'll be able to get it myself.

Don't do anything other than take it back to the dealership. The emissions warranty is until 80K.

This is on an xA? The xA has the main cat on the exhaust system, you can simply cut, chop and weld in a universal cat like this:

Simply measure the diameter of the piping before and after the car and order...
