Default What is wrong with Toyota/Scion Dealer mechanics?

Hey, I just got the Strup axle exhaust/ header combo, from Charlie. Thanks Charlie. But anyways, love the exhaust, installed that myself, but had the dealer look at installing the header when my Box was at the shop for an oil change,
and they wanted me to sign papers saying that the thing will void the warranty, and that the car will overheat, and the piston will melt to the wall, and they wanted to charge me 295 dollars for the install, I said hell no and ran out.

What is wrong with these freaking people?

wth... lol ... get it installed somewhere else...

dealership mechs are quite picky about what goes on the cars.

only thing headers can do is result in burned valves because headers can sometimes lean out the air fuel ratio.

i work for another dealer (VW) and we are not encouraged to sell instalsl aftermarket parts, unless they are from our parts dept.

dealerships have a lot of liability and most aftermarket parts are questionable as far as fit and function

we cannot install a part that will void andy part of the warranty

this is where your header fits in, anything installed before the catalytic converter is considered to void the entire powertrain warranty

we have to worry about these things

High estimates are how the dealerships basically tell you they don't want to do it.

I tell you what. I just bought my 2nd Scion xB. I went to order the TRD springs, and the sales person went to service to see how much just the labor was to intall them. For just labor, and alignment of the 4 springs, now mind you this price does not include the springs. They quoted me $679.00 for spring install and alignment. I can do the work in my drive way in a hour and a half. That was just crazy. One things dealers make no sense is. My car I traded in was a Nissan Sentra Spec V. The dealer warrantied every thing that went wrong with the car no questions asked. The even installed my Aftermarket cam shafts for me and a good labor rate. I had a header on my car and there was a recall on the car because the factory(header) with the cat built into it was going bad, and the material was being sucked into the motor destroying motors. They just had my bring my stock piece up, and exchanged it for me. I looked at the bill they also put labor on it, but according to them they get paid to do warranty work. You have to get a good dealer and they are hard to find. My buddy also bough a 03 Cobra, and built it to put down 618WHP. There was a recall on the clutch, so when he got it done, he asked them if he could buy a Centerforce, and they install it. And they did, no charge to him, because they were doing the labor anyway.

yes dealerships do get paid for warranty work but they make less from warranty than standard , flat rate mechanics get 8/10ths the time to do it so 8/10s the pay normally. and dealers do have responsibility for aftermarket parts , you must have known some cool peeps. it's all about toyota dealers and the toyota dealergroups theories on doing the works most of them don't want to so....

Well Pete, I install the headers all day long for 50 bucks and it only takes about a half hour. Let me know if you still need it done. I dont go to Toyota for anything but my lifetime free oil changes. Except for tomorrow when it goes in the for the clutch under warranty. The only way they would do it under warranty was if I used the TRD clutch. I had to pay for the clutch but they are doing the install under warranty. They are also adding my clutchmasters flywheel and my Hotchkis sway at the same time...

Correct. I am NOT paying for the install, just the parts. Yes, clutchmasters DOES make a flywheel for our cars. They have produced three of them and I have one of them. The other two are in stock there and ready to ship.

Just something they were offering. I bring my own oil anyways (amsoil synthetic) but they supply the filter and labor. And its funny watching them try to upsell me on things that I supposedly need and the service writer has no idea what they even are....
