Absolutely no need for them. But if you insist, go Magnaflow. Stylis from Precision Muffler can probably get you the correct part number.

no need for a "specific Scion one"... any exhaust shop can get you a high-flo that they can weld in place...

I BELIEVE this is worth quite a few ponies on our cars...

ESP if you have the rest of the exhaust done!

We did the high flow cat thing on a scion, it wasn't even noticable. It was 10mm les material with the high flow that we had. We ended going back to the stock one and modified the stock cat to fit 2.5inch. Aww yeah got the smog legal cat with a custom system!!

I could see that being the case... almost...

As I recently added an MMW 4-2-1 header and did notice a difference cin mid-range torque. As a result.. I would surmise that the stock manifold was restrictive... even moreso than the cat...

Review here:
http://www.echodrivers.com/forums/vi...11576&start=30

However...
I believe that if you have intake, header and exhaust... that the cat would DEFINATELY be a major restriction... and worth replacing... (has been on all other car's I've seen...)

...but this is speculation on the Scion's and Echo's.

Thank you for your input, and I have been reading up extensively on this. I have decided that a standard High flow cat or the typical "after market" piece in combination with the exhaust I am having put together will trip a sensor in the ecu and cause my car to "learn" the modifications and thus be detrimental to horsepower and torque gains.

HOWEVER, if I have a celica gts cat installed, slightly larger diameter to match exhaust, and here is the good part, the gts cat will still have acceptable levels of flow to not cause the ecu to learn my mods.

I meant no need for a high flow catalytic convert vs. the stock catalytic converter.

I would never recommend running without a catalytic converter. Especially naturally aspirated in California.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything to our cars in Cali. It's so DAMN hard to get anything legal here. WTF really!

Intake header and exhaust are no problem with an '05 or older xB. Anything beyond that performance-wise and you are playing with fire.

Though it is rumored that the Greddy Turbo may be getting CARB excemption. (At least that is what the guy from Greddy told me when I talked to them at SEMA.)

I went with the 2.25" exhaust on my xA. I have a cheapy eBay header, magnaflow 2.25" high flow cat, 2.25" high flow resonator and a InVidia axle-back (converted into cat-back). I hate loud exhaust and with this setup i get just the right amount of flow and sound. I hate the empty can sounding hondas with fart pipes, i just cant take a car that sounds like crap, there is NOTHING worst.

This setup did loosen up some power, but i still think there is room for more improvement on the exhaust. Since i plan on going turbo real soon im not going to bother until i have the turbo put in.

Jsosa is there any way that you would be able to give me some sound clips of your car ???? And I definatley agree with you that no matter what having a crappy sounding car is the worst thing that you could possibly spend money on.
Thanks.

i dont have any sound clips, but there is a thread somewhere on this site all about axle backs, and that thread has sound clips of alot of different axle backs. If you do find it, you can compare to what mine sounds like with that of the the RSR axle back.

This is what I have on my scion xB, remember that I have gone from full custom system to cat back to having it perfect for me.

I have the MMW header, 2.25 inch down pipe into the stock cat (We cut the front of the converter to fit the 2.25inch pipe) and using the stock mid pipe to the 2.25 dual can axle back. Because of this set-up I am at the optimum HP output and TQ for the xB. And still have great gas milage too, when I don't stomp on it. :D

bringin back the dead, but my box is registered in north dakota so i dont have to worry about smog, and would like to tkae the stock peanut piping off and have something that matches y axle back which is prob the 2.25 or so, and if i just did what stylis did and ake that piping fitthe cat and resonater would that be enough? cuz from all ive heard its the lack of a resonater that cuases the honda rasp, and id shoot myself if it sounded like that lol

Yeah if you ditch your resonator it will be really raspy! I went 2 inch from rear of cat to my axel back apexi ws2 exhaust, its raspy as hell in cld weather. I hate that sound.
