My 05 xB (43,000 miles) recently started running really rough (you could hear it wasn't firing on all four cylinders) and the obd II says P0353, I replaced the ignition coil and changed my spark plugs just to be on the safe side. The car will now idle fine, but after about a minute it throws the same code. When I give it gas it will rev fine, but it sounds like it chokes once I let off the gas and stalls. The check engine light still trips code P0353 (P0353 Ignition Coil "C" Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction) if anyone has any suggestions as to what might be wrong I would greatly appreciate your help.

It would appear that P0353 is a generic code for most manufacturers. From a Ford forum, here's what it could be:

P0353

Open or short in Ignition START/RUN circuit
Open coil driver circuit in harness
Coil driver circuit shorted to ground
Damaged coil
Damaged PCM
Coil driver circuit shorted to PWR

Check the wiring harness from the coil(s) back to the ECU and make sure there are no problems/shorts. Beyond that, I've not experienced that symptom so I can't narrow down a diagnosis/solution. fwiw...

 

take it to toyota, it may be under warranty.

 

They will at least be able to give you an idea.
