Default the xB's "little engine" opinions

Im definetly not into racing or anything like that, I drive like an old woman (so the gf says), but I was wondering what people thought of their xBs engine power on hilly even mountainous terrain, with steep inclines. a freind of mine has an 03 mitsubishi mirage and that thing dogs up hills. Im just wondering how it will handle seeing how Im looking to drop a 6 cylinder jeep with about 185hp for a box soon and occasionaly Ill be taking trips where I head through the mountains.

...and yes I searched first

You may have searched, but you didn't post it in the right place...

It's cool though... moved to PH.

i live in Va too. i drive my box from lexington over the mountain to lynchburg at least once a week. i dont think it does too bad at all. there are a lot of turns and alot of inclines and i usually can make the 45mile trip in under 40 mins. overall i say 8 out of 10 on the mountain.

Took mine out to Colordo this summer, it did fine up in the mountians, mines a manual so I just didn't spend as much time in 5th gear as I do in the flat places like Iowa, and from what I understand the Auto tranny can tell when your in the mountians and it doesn't shift into overdrive as quickly... personally I think you'll be just fine.

i drive through tahoe all the time. i own other cars left and right. the only cars that can/will hang with me/ pass me up are subarus. everyone else wont go as fast. so i'd say i haveno problems. just add some power adders and you'll be happy.

i drive my box from Reno to San Fran all the time, and it hangs pretty well in there. Since i lowered mine i can take turns goin atleast 20mph over the speed limit. so thats REAL nice. The only complaint i have is if your going up hill and someone slows you down, its alittle hard to get ur speed back.

Auto or Manual xB?

Driving up/down a hill in an auto per Scion.com:
"The automatic transmissions utilize an advanced powertrain known as grade logic. This technology manipulates the shift logic of transmissions during uphill or downhill driving. By simply lifting the throttle while ascending hills, upshifts can be inhibited and the engine can remain in the peak torque band to maintain a smooth ride throughout. A similar logic applies during downhill driving to provide more engine braking by not upshifting needlessly." Peak torque is 4200RPM.
