The damper is for the benefit of the occupants of the car. The engine is not harmed by its inherent vibrations, any more than a Harley's engine is. When H-D recently dampened its classically-vibrating engines, it was for the sake of the riders, not the engines.
vibrations no.. but when the engine fires at a high rpm especially on a boosted motor the rod bearing take a big impact.. this pully helps eliminate the stress by takin the impact instead of the bearings

This topic has gone off the rails, some people dont even know what damper we are talking about anymore.

and how can a dampner on the crank pully possibly take some of the stress impact on a rod bearing?

and i dont see how a light weight crank pully will make the car handle weird? maybe your talking about the engine damper that is you can buy to absorb the torque movement of the engine under acceleration but thats not what this topic was about.
