Check Engine, VSC, Trac Off (fuel vapor leak)
2006 with 94,000 miles. The usual 3 lights came on - I ran the scan tool, came up with different result than mentioned on any thread here.
PO171 - System too lean
PO441 - Evaporative Emission Control System purge flow
PO455 - Evap. EMCS system leak (vapor leak large)
Yes, fuel lid is tightly in place. After filling up (with one click full), the engine sputters, I have to literally FLOOR it, to start. All starts afterwards, are fine. I still get 31 mpg.
I am almost thinking there is something in the fuel tank. The gas is decent grades - Marathon, BP, Shell.
Suggestions? (before I take it to dealer - as I don't have tools for this repair)

Need of repair........
.........ya think?!
An accurate reply, although I was hoping for more - like a fuse, or sensor. Something relatively simple that I can repair. But, its looking like I will have to "bite-the-bullet" and let DEALER handle this.
Nice weather today, ..... maybe one more time up on my jack stands to look for lose hoses, fittings, or a hole somewhere.

have you filled up with the vehicle running? that WILL throw a code real quick. or you may have a evap canister leak. check the vacuum lines under the hood especially at the tee. the gas cap may need to be pressure tested as well.

OH my,....fill up WHILE running?! Isn't that sort of, ....ummm, illegal? Or is that only IF you get caught? (teehee)
The lines under the hood seem fine - for all I know.
Pressure testing anything I am not equiped to do. Boohoo for me, eh?!
Cannister leak sounds believable to me, also.
Appreciate your response. My errands kept me from DEALER today. But if I cannot discover problem this week, then next saturday will be time to take it in. Keep you posted here, of any good information.

I see that NC after your name. In case you didn't have time to Google it, my home town of Okemos is actually right next to MSU. AND, I just happen to be a State grad. I do believe we BOTH are in for what hopes to be an improved matchup from their earlier Dec. 3rd game. Either way, Ford Field and the Motor City will be Rockin'.

Took in to Dealer yesterday. According to their testing, they need to replace the VSV. Total cost: $189.
They had to order the part. It will be in on Monday, 4/13. After which, time/driving will tell if their solution is the correct one.
Fingers crossed.

Not the MAF sensor, Mike. Nor the gas. So far, the replacement of the VSV has done the trick. No check engine light yet. Apparently, the technician at Spartan Toyota diagnosed this one properly.
Appreciate all the feedback. I am closing in on 100,000 miles in less than 3 years (I live 58 miles from work). No major problems with this mighty beast of an economy car.
I wonder now, after reading about Timing Belts, if ours are rubber or steal. Hmmmm, time to google........
