Default Installed Koyo radiator

Here are the pics of the old and new radiator. It took me and a friend about three
hours to install a Koyo radiator in my box on Sunday. We took our time and had to
drain the system an extra time because the drain plug needed an O-ring that it didn't
come with. There is a lot to dismantle to get the radiator out and we didn't want to
disconnect the A/C. I could not believe how small the old radiator was once we got it
out. It's only about 3/4" thick. The new radiator is over 1-1/2" thick and a lot more
open for air flow. The Koyo sure is shinny but once installed you can't see any of it.

Here is the old one

and here is the new one

Nice man! I'm about to go through that same procedure. Did you run into any "issues" or did it go smoothly for you?

I wouldn't say that I was overheating, it was just running too hot when in heavy traffic
during the summer months in Atlanta.

The only issue was that I had to add an o-ring to the head of the old filler plug that I
had to salvage from the stock radiator as the new one only came with one of the two
required fill plugs. You also re-use the stock mounts. The A/C condenser is fairly
loose and moves easily to get the radiator past it without disconnecting it.

I drove 80 mph 33 miles to work this morning and only got the temp up to 180
degrees. Granted the outside temp was around 35. We will see on the trip home
as it will be over 60 by then.

It's 59 degrees out and I just got home. The water temp got to 185 or so while driving
and jumped to 195 degrees at the first stop ;ight off the freeway. it took about 30 seconds
after I started rolling for the temp to return to 180.

I believe this to have been a worthwhile modification. The real test will be summer in
Atlanta. This time of year the fan rarely comes on. I’m running a Blitz SC with a
CAI, header, and the stock RS 2.0 DC exhaust.

I ran into the SAME exact problem with the o-ring, but i didnt notice it until after i had filled the radiator and began to purge the system

Talk about frustration, but it wasnt bad. Only took me 1.5. Maybe the xA is easier to disassemble.

...in the disassembly process:

The old radiator:

The new polished piece:

Just about done:

Final Product:

...after hooking up the scan tool i noticed the car was running between 35-55deg cooler on average! I will try to post some pics up, but this was such a good upgrade. The finish is top notch and the welds were amazing.

Nice Upgarde Baine! Hope i didnt thread jack too much lol.

No worries. It took me at least 30 minutes to go get the o-ring I didn't have on hand
and then my (very helpful) friend needed to take a few smoke breaks and we took a
beer break. And then I had to go for a test run around the block about twenty times
real fast. The time tends to get away from me somehow.

I had the same issue, but I just put some Blue RTV Silicon around the plug. Worked great!
