Default 10w7 or 12w6v2

im gonna get my hands on a 12w6v2 and a jl audio e6450 amp this weekend from a trade. as most of you know, i have a 10w7 in my hatch right now.

im debating which sub to use. a local car audio(phile) expert told me that a12w6 will be better. this is advice from a guy who owned (3) 12w7's in his tacoma.

10w7=500w rms
12w6=400w rms
im going to use the 500/1 to power.

what are you opinion(s)?

From my roomate who used to own a shop I heard the 10w7's have a tendency to blow out and don't have the lasting power of a 10w6v2 so that's what i'm buying. Two 10w6v2's for about 140.00. Just need to find a kick ___ amp to go with them. Post pics when you get them installed, late!

Those are both nice subs!! You prolly won't be able to tell the difference between them, one has more power handling and a longer throw(10w7) and the other has more cone surface area so it doesn't need as much throw for the same output. I would prefer the larger speaker since it won't have to work as hard, to me that means less distortion. But if space is an issue then go with the smaller sub. You won't go wrong with either.

Just checked on that, the xmax for the 10w7 is listed as 23mm not 32mm.

Here's a review of the 12w6 that I found:
http://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0403cae_jlaudio/

And one for the 10w7:

given rational installation and identical wattage input, the 12w6v2 will create more pressure than the 10w7.... making it a little louder....

Displacement for the 10w7 is 141.3cu. in.
Displacement for the 12w6v2 is 146.952cu. in.

For those that dont want to read the review, here's the results:

10w7:
SPL in car measurement at 2.83 volts, at 1 meter Peak reading non-weighted
40 Hz.................100.5 dB
80 Hz.................100.8 dB
Max SPL...............130.6 dB

12w6v2:
SPL in-car measurement at 2.83 volts, 1 meter Peak reading non-weighted
40Hz: 100.0dB
80Hz: 100.3dB
Max SPL: 129.7dB

Nearly identical!! You definately won't be able to tell the difference!!

....which is why I would no doubt go for the 12w6... main reason....10lbs lighter...same enclosure size... and could get away with a little less power with the 12w6 ( the 12w6 is slightly more efficient.

GO with the 10" w7 if u run 500 watts to it is louder than 2 w6v2 in a ported box. if you get the w7 you should get the high uotput box to go with it, i have personally heard these two subs go head to head in the same car setup, (not in the same car) one next to the other and we could tell the w7 was hitting harder, louder, and it sounded good.needless to say i would choose the 10" W7 in the high output box with a JL 500/1 running to it
