Hopefully we can get a group buy going and get some xB owners setup!
Exactly. That's why I'd gladly pay more for one of his alternators. I've heard too many stories of people getting HO alternators that fail because they can't put out any current at idle. Some of the rebuilt alternators put out even less than the stock alt at idle.
I had that type of experience with my 2000 Dakota R/T. I had the stock alt rewound at a local shop and yeah at 2k RPM it would do 230 amps or so, but at idle my voltage with a PPI PC1800.s and a 2400.2 would fall below 10 volts. I wasn't ahppy with that alt. Now I am more than happy with this one. My bass is cleaner and stronger...I hope these subs can handle it.

I'm running 2 amps 1 800 W and 1 900W, do I really need a high performance alternator or it that more for super high end systems?

Don't be too concerned with the wattage output of the amps. What you need to do is look at the owner's manual and see how much their max current draw is. If you exceed 60 or so amps, upgrading the battery may work just fine. If you are going over 80-100 amps, it's probably time to upgrade the alternator also. Another good thing to do is get a voltmeter and check the voltage with the car off, it will be around 12,8 volts. Now, you want to start the car, check the voltage, it will be around 14 volts. Now crank up the stereo and check the voltage, if it is below the car-off voltage, you need upgrades. Mine would idle at 13.9 volts or so, but drop to 11.2 when the stereo was full tilt.

At idle my voltage is around 13.6 and at 1200 RPM it's above 14. Did you make sure and plug the wiring harness in well? That's kinda weird that you are having the problems. Also, did you upgrade the main power wire, if not you may have blown the fuse on the factory main wire.

I upgraded to a 4g flat wire straight from the alternator post to the fuseable link. Positive wires are all 0 guage flat, and grounds are 0g flat as well. yeah its wierd. I double checked all connections. here is a picture of my wire setup.

I do see on large wire going from the alt ot the battery, so that's perfect. Double check that plug on the alt and make sure it's plugged in well and that none of the molex pins pushed themselves out and aren't making contact. I hope you didn't get a bad alt, but if you did Dom will take care of you. I would call him, he's a little slow on e-mails, but he has always answered his phone.
