Well, right now, I don't have the head unit personally, it's still at the dealership. I told them about this post and they want me to come up on Thursday and go over it with them. As far as price, I had originally ordered an '06 w/ the iPod HU, but they said the 06 would take 4-ever to get here. When the 05 I have now got to the dealership, they said they would put the iPod HU in the 05 for the same price ($265) as if I had gotten an 06. I lucked out i guess. I'll let you know as soon as i find the part number.

GOOD NEWS! I'm at work, and got the call that my 2005 xB has the 2006 iPod HU in it RIGHT NOW! I'm about to go pick it up, then head out of town. Whenever i get back on the net later, I will let yall know if it works or not, to further prove the dealers wrong. AND, I'll have the Part Number.

UPDATE!! Here is the deal. I picked up my 2005 xB from the dealer, WITH the 2006 iPod HU. THIS IS THE PROBLEM. UNLESS YOU HAVE A DONOR 2006 xB, you are out of luck for getting a 100% complete project. The HU works great, cd and color scroll, but there HONESTLY IS a harness in the 2006, not found in the 2005. Unless you can pull one of these new harnesses from an 06 WITH THE iPOD HU, don't even think about getting this to work. I got the HU and (2) OF THE (3) needed cables needed for this to work. ONCE AGAIN, the only way to get this to fully work is to have the 2006 donor. I didn't want to repeate myself alot, but i want to end all of the confusion. IT CAN BE DONE, but only with a iPod equiped 2006 donor. I will have picks up as soon as i figure out how to post them.

By the way, if the dealer promised me that they could get this to work in my 05, and there was no reason for me to wait for an 06, and now they know they cant finish the job correctly, WHAT SHOULD I DO? I feel like they either owe me an 06 like i want it with the iPod HU correctly installed not some jacked up version like i currently have. I mean, this is stupid. They said, yeah get the 05, we can make it work. And unless they get an 06 with the iPod HU and are willing to gut it out for that harness, it's not ever gonna work. I'm just ticked off more than i can say, i'm stuck with an 05 when they should have said YES or NO and been able to 100% back up their promise. They can't, and i feel like i'm the one in the end who is paying for their mistake, and thats not right.

I would save yourselves some money or spend money and get more for it. If you don't have an O5 but need to control your IPOD from your stereo, I would try:

1. Alpine HU, with connector for IPOD might run you around 400-500 dollars depending on what you get.

2. Pioneer Avic-D1 it is probably around 1500-1700 dollars but it has navigation and also will allow you to control your IPOD through the unit.

These are two suggestions before you kill yourself to get an OEM HU for a lot of money!

I have an 06 tC with the IPOD HU and love it. I think it was worth the 260 dollar upgrade fee, but I would not have paid 1000 dollars for it.

hahah wow get the AVIC? thats a little overkill for iPod hookup...any current or past Pioneer headunit will work with their iPod Adapter...

I don't understand. I just use the mini-jack plug inlet for my ipod on my eclipse headunit . . . it sounds great in my opinion. No need for those fancy hook ups . . .

Buc can you control the IPOD from the HU on those systems. WEll the Avic is not really overkill if you are spending 1000 dollars for an OEM radio, and go out and buy a portable GPS unit, then you would actually save some money LOL

But if it works with other Pioneer units, i would add that to the list of options

Ok, I talked to a guy at Car Toys in Denver. He said it's cheaper to buy a new stereo than to buy the integration to the factory stereo. A new stereo with iPod integration runs about $250. However, if you insist on keeping the factory stereo, the cost is about $400. Seems a little wacky to me. I personally like my factory stereo because the Alpine unit needs a kit to fit. I think I would go for the DVD unit someone else suggested in an earlier post. I had an AUX input installed for about $170. I hook it to my Belkin TuneBase line-out. Works for me. I'll post pics of my install if anyone is interested.
