Default 2005 xA - What do I need to do for IPOD connect?

Ok, I have searched through the forum to figure this out, but I really just got more confused. I just bought a used 2005 xA that has the standard CD/stereo. It has a **** for volume control if that helps. Anyway, I want to know what my options are for connecting my IPOD directly to my unit (ie I don't want an FM transmitter). What do I need to be able to CONTROL the IPOD from the in-dash unit? Will my model be able to actually scroll through the IPOD folders and display the folder names and song names on the display unit? Do I need to replace the whole stereo or can I just add an adapter. If so, I want to make sure the adapter allows me to have full control of the IPOD from the stero unit. My local Scion dealer's website mentions "I-Pod compatible stereo for $260.00," but is my stero already compatible? I also checked out Circuitcity and they seem to have an option (Metra Toyota-compatible iPodİ Adapter):

Sorry to ask a question that has likely already been answered in this forum, but like I said, I am just getting more confused ready about different options. Thanks in advance!

Default forgot to add

I neglected to mention that the stereo I have has an "aux" button which makes me believe it is compatible with connecting an IPOD. I just don't know what I need to do this.

you won't be able to control your ipod from the HU without an interface. ipod2car is one, icruze is another, and so on. Otherwise, the 2005, and for that matter, the 2006 base unit, are not capable of controlling the iPod directly.

no interface that's factory compatible will allow ll other interfaces mimic CD changers and control from the HU is reyou to scroll files and playlists. it will in essence mimic a CD changer, with six playlists and songs just listed as tracks.

the $260 price is for a 2006 stereo installed in a new 2006. To get that stereo after you own the car, it is between $500 and $700 since you keep your original HU, which is not the case with a new 2006. if you purchase the upgrade, you are paying for the cost diffrence between the stock stereo and the upgraded stereo- you don't get both units.

Your stereo may have an aux in port or RCAs on the back but that's irrelevant because it won't control the iPod from the HU which is what you want.

You will probably have to go aftermarket to get that kind of control- either with the $349 alpine 9857 or with 2006 model pioneer units and the model 2 ipod adapter, which allows full control. most other adapters have the same issue of mimicking the CD changer, which does not allow you to browse files and folders. Aftermarket or shelling out the big $$ for the 2006 upgraded stereo plus install is the only way to get full control from the HU.
