Default 2006 tC radio installed and working in 2005 tC (56k beware)

Thanks to stillmotion (you rock, thanks man!) who sent me his 06 tC radio to test this with.

So here goes. I removed the stock 2005 radio, then connected the harness to the new 06 and bolted it in place. Then i turned the car on. That was all I did. It works right out of the box.

Oddly enough, the connectors on the back of the radio are exactly the same on both radios, just slightly further apart on the 2005. Pics follow....

2005 Radio before removal

Both radios in the same shot so you can see it's the same car

2006 in it's new home

2006 all buttoned up and powered on.

Close-up of the 06 playing an mp3 cd

Pic of the back of both radios.

More pics (and high res versions) available here:

If anyone has an 06 and would like to remove their Aux port and/or iPod cable, and send those to me to see if they work on the 2005 radio, that would be awesome. Or if you want to sell them to me so I can have a complete 2006 retro fit, that would be fine too =)[/img]

Very cool stuff. I know many '05 owners that will be wanting this done, especially after the dealers denied it could. Next step: replacing the '05 steering wheel

for reasons that a1cusaf said. The dealers kept saying it couldn't be done. So I thought I would take a few minutes and just do it.

I'd like the OEM steering wheel with controls because I can buy a harness that will let me use them on an after-market HU. Which would be nice. The iPod connector and aux connector would just be icing on the cake until an adapter comes out to let me use those on an aftermarket HU (or just use it as an "extension cord" of sorts for a brain in the dash)

Awesome! Thanks

So.... where can I buy a 06 HU for my 05 Tc and what does the single CD changer version cost? Anyone know?

Should be able to get an 06 HU from your dealer, or McGeorge parts. There is no multi-cd changer option for the 06 AFAIK.

That's good info, but for the price of a stock radio you could probably buy a good aftermarket radio. I am sure they charge a arm and leg for a stock radio. Just my opinion, not hating.

VERY cool. I hope that works for the xB/xA...that would rule. In a way things that rule, well, rule.

thanks for the pics though. and fyi, no one can just send you their aux/ipod "cable" from their 2006 because it's all wired and integrated into wiring harnesses in the car. what i'm saying is, it's not like it's a separate "option" piece like the TOY03-AUX is: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67318

the text does not scroll on the 2nd gen HU. you still have to actually press the TEXT button to advance the text.

Does the new HU still have the Easter Eggs? Like having it say SCION in Japanese, that sort of thing.

good question. it does have the option to make your own custom message, but if there are easter eggs, i haven't heard anything. i've tried some of the easter eggs that were present in the 1st gen hu and they don't work, so if they are there, there is a different way to get them. perhaps the next scion mag will have the info. speaking of which, does anyone know when the next scion mag is out??

Well suck. I thought I searched hard enough to make sure this wasn't a duplicate thread. Sorry everyone.

I think I'm still going to try for the '06 Steering wheel controls. If I'm successful with it I'll let everyone know. Working up a harness is a bit of a pain, but it's not impossible.

np. and the pics are really appreciated. just further proof that it does work.

and you may want to get in contact with tCarloRS1.0 on these boards about retrofitting the steering wheel. he said he was gonna try and do this also and you might want to see if he's had any progress/problems thus far...
