bump. i'm currently looking for an alarm that will work with the scion tC key. i don't need remote start and i don't want a paging system. i saw the thread about the hornet install on this site, it was cool, but i'm looking to see if anyone else has an alarm that works with the scion tC key

About 95% off all the alarms and remote starts mentioned here are made by DEI. Dont get me wrong there a good brand. But there some brands out there that can hang with them. Example Skytek. There galaxy models are pretty damn good. Example: for remote start you dont have to connect the tach wire in order for the remote start to function. The alarm brain can tell by how many volts your battery is reading. It does it by just the fact when the engine is off the battery voltage would be lower when the engine is on. Obviously when your start the engine the voltage will spike up a bit and remain that way when engine is on. But when you kill the engine the voltage would read a lil lower. Thats how the alarm brain can tell if the engine is on or off without the use of the tach wire. Overall it would just save you a lot of time on having to find the wire, then to test it and connect it. Oh and you save time on having to program the brain to the tach wire. But it is just safer just to connect the tach wire. But not necessary though. I did my remote start on my 99 s-10 done this way and worked fine for 2 years. Then I sold the truck and so far the new owner hasnt complained at all. just my .02 cents
