Alarm Question

Alarm Question
Have a question about alarms. I have ordered a TC, one of the options i requested was a Scion Security System. Now that i think about it, ive been leaning towards getting the clifford with the responder/pager. Now i cant decided which to do
The pros of the Scion are
1. Dealer Installed (probably helps to increase value of car)
2. Financed Through Bank, so no initial outlay of cash
Pros of Clifford
1. Better Unit
2. Responder/Pager
Anyone have an opinion on this??

I really like the functionality (and novelty) of the keyfob, so, that in itself was a determining factor for me when it came to looking at alarms. Secondly, the factory alarm system, which utilizes the keyfob, seems very under-featured for its price. And after some thought, I felt the built-in engine immobilizer which requires the presence of the coded chip in the key, was sufficient for my situation. It wont stop or even deter anybody from breaking in my car, stealing my airbags, rims, stereo equipment, etc, but it will help prevent them from taking the car outright. And in my situation, a device that alerts me that the alarm has been triggered, and makes an audible alert from the car when triggered, wouldn’t be very beneficial. Wheels locks would serve me better. That said, if you find that an alarm would be beneficial to you in your situation, I would suggest getting an aftermarket one such as the Clifford. You loose the novelty and functionality of the keyfob being the all-in-one device, but gain greater security. Far more security than the factory alarm offers, and if installed properly will likely increase the value of the car more than the factory alarm as well. Find a compotent installer, possibly one that will let you watch them install. An installer that doesnt mind you watching, or even encourages it, has nothing to hide.

the only reason I went for scion security system is because I do NOT want to carry a seperate remote, and I think remote on key is really nice, like european cars. I have aftermarket audio system, I do NOT want anyone to get in my car. I tested the alarm when I'm inside my room, I can hear it perfectly. That's all I need. When I park out in public, alarm can draw attention and scare the thief away. I really don't need fancy alarm functions like those after market ones with two-way pager etc

Wait, was that a question or a statement??

another thing you should keep in mind is that if you get a remote start 2 way page system like the clifford responder or the viper 791xv, you'll have to give up a key for the remote start feature. btw, all teh keys have transponder chips in them if you're wodnering, including the valet key. whats different is that the valet key can't open the locked glove box.
also, i heard that the factory alarm costs about $100 installed from a shop, and scion asking $500 for it sounded like a rip off, especially with its lack of features.
for the same ammount of money, i got the 791xv installed with remote start. NY winters up here reach -30 deg F. so yea.... remote start in the morning is a definite.
also, what some people dont know about the 791 xv is the "valet take-over" mode, which allows you to keep your car running while you take the key out and lock your car. good in the winter or summer when you want to keep the engine idle for heat/AC while you run into the ATM/dunkin donuts. just fyi.

My dealer installed alarm is linked to the key fob that came with the car. But the manual is a "Silencer" brand alarm not toyota or anything.

oh, and a hood pin sensor also.
i think you may have to adjust the sensitivity of your sensor to pick up more fine tuned things, like tapping on glass. i tap the top of my windshield and it'll trigger the shock sensor. and i dont have a sound or glass breakage sensor.

i would get the factory alarm, and then a gps tracking device, it is compatible with your alarm and can call your cellphone if your car is being broken into, the door has opened or if the car has actually been stolen or towed away.
