Default Almost had a fire..........................

I was at a car show and I turned on my Randode Cold Cathode Lighting Kit, and about one minute later I could smell smoke . I started looking under the dash, there was nothing. So I stuck my head under the passenger side seat and nothing. As I put my head under the driverside seat I could hear a humming sound. Instantly I smelled a strong burning smell and I saw smoke and a small flame coming from the transformer . Holy sh*t I turned the switch off and unplugged the light. I took out the transformer and it was fried and It was still smoking. If you have the kit check your transformers every now and then as they do go bad and bad things could happen if you are not careful. I'm not downing the kit because it's a very good kit, but beware of the transformers. I saved myself from what could have been a nastey fire under my a$$. Hopefully it dosen't happen to anyone else.

Yeah I'm glad I caught it too. Usually I turn the lights on and go and chit chat with the fellas. I'm glad I didn't do it this time.

if you pay for a premade kit then the least you can expect is for it not to CATCH ON FIRE.

Never had a problem with my self-installed ones from SVC.

Electronics go bad sometimes. How could anyone predict if a transformer will go bad? How could you check to see if your transformer is going to go bad soon? You can't. You'll just have to chalk this one up to some child-slave worker in China that had a bad day!

I don't really care about the transformer going bad. I'm just letting all the people that brought the kit to beware. It's not cool to be driving around with a fire under your a$$ because of a lighting kit that they installed in there cars. I already replaced all the transformers with new units, and I even added 2 more cathodes under my seats :D . Total cost $8 .

I agree...

Pre made or not, its unpredictable...Its not the fault of the wiring of the kit, it the fault of the transformer.

But thanks Munch for looking out. Ill keep an eye out for my cathode transformers now.

Well I replaced all 3 transformers with new ones already , just to be safe. Don't worry about it you have no control over electrical parts . As my dad used to say "If it's gonna happen, Then it's gonna happen. Because $hit happens "

i think randode is a good guy and something like this wouldn't ruin his rep....especially since he got on the topic and showed why he's customer service oriented...:-D
