there is a grommet that goes from the inside of your car to your engine bay. you can cut a small hole through the grommet and run the wire from the engine bay to the interior then to the back of the car. If you need more help let me know.

I went one further. If you take a flathead screwdriver (you might want to stick it inside a sock or something) and pry back the lip of the grommet, you can shove the wire in alongside it and then pull the screwdriver back out. I did this. I used the grommet that was behind the brake stuff on the righthand side (standing in front of the hood). No reason you can't use the other one, but I found it easier to get to since you can reach it up under the driver's dash.

If you do this, you are opening the firewall to your car, which will...... probably result in nothing, since the grommet will seal around it. If you're real worried, get some FireStop caulk at the hardware store and squirt around the wire.

Wait, wait, wait....you ran the power wire on the SIDE of the grommet?

I hate to break this to you, but the grommet is there to suspend whatever wires you
pass through the hole and to KEEP THE WIRE FROM RUBBING/TOUCHING/SHORTING
on the metal and causing a fire....fire is bad for your Scion.

Please guys, use your brains, if you aren't sure get some help. I've seen too many
car fires as the result of half-assed amp installs in my day. It's pretty sad, burning up
a whole car to save $100 on install fees.

A couple of general purpose tips:

1) Fuse the power lead within 18" of the battery positive terminal.

2) Run the power THROUGH GROMMETS and NEVER, EVER run power or speaker
leads or ANYTHING outside/under the car.

3) NEVER use half-assed binding methods on ANYTHING. IE Twisting wires together
and taping, is NOT a safe way to wire ANYTHING!!

4) A good connection is one that you can pretty much lift the amp/speaker/battery/whatever
up with by the cable. If I don't think I can pull on a cable without it popping out, it
needs to be redone until it is solid enough to handle a good tug.

5) Ground wires are JUST as important as power wires. Make sure there is a SOLID
connection (see above), and make sure it's to raw metal and not painted metal.
Sparks are bad.

6) Don't skimp out, do it right the first time, and be safe. Think about where every
little wire and screw is going to go, have it all laid out in your head and in the car
before you install a single thing.

That's about it for now. I'm sure you can find more into online if you Google amp installs.

Well, I couldn't see how to get the wire INTO the grommet. If there's some kind of trick or a picture to illustrate it... if you just put a hole in the cap of the g rommet, you'd still have to run the wire along side the rubber part that's actually inside the firewall. I've seen pix somewhere on here but they didn't really explain how to get it inside....

Use a sharp knife to slit the boot enough to get the wire through. Tape the wire to a straightened coat hanger and push it through to the other side.
