Another Lighted Grill Emblem Idea
This one's pretty basic.
First off the pictures:
How to do it:
Materials:
Plexiglass
Scion emblem (back)
Jewlers Saw
Hot Glue
Adhesive
2 or more LEDs with resistors
Black model paint (testors)
1. The first thing you need to do is mount your emblem on some plastic. I did this by tracing the oval and cutting it out of plexiglass with a jewler's saw. After I cut the oval out I hot-glued the emblem to it and painted the back black.
2. To attach the LEDs, position them on either side of the square hole in the front grill and secure them with hot glue. I only did one row of LEDs, but it's possible to put 3 rows of lights behind the emblem. It's up to you. Run the wires through the hole to your power source and ground.
3. Slap your emblem on top of your LEDs so you cover the square hole and obscure where the light is coming from. I used a zip tie and a sticky surface mount square from a set of PCtoys cold cathodes on the back of the emblem, but any kind of glue or adhesive that attaches the emblem to the grill is fine.
4. Clean up and wait till nightfall.
Possible Variations:
A clear or diffused plastic mounting with a vinyl scion logo could produce a sweet reverse glow effect. Using the xB badge could definitely be cool, but it'd be hard to cut out of plastic and probably wouldn't cover the square hole. Be creative!
Don't forget the Max2k Commandments for Car Modifiers:
1. Thou shalt not disable safety features.
2. Thou shalt not endanger thyself whilst modding.
3. Thou shalt not buy wings from APC.
