I just put in 2 12" Kicker L5's 2 Ohm Subs on a ZX1000.1. Oh... a dual vented/separated box tuned at 38Hz. I've been kinda interested to see where I would hit. I haven't had it all the way up yet . . . The gain is about 1/4 up just so I can get the subs broke in and have them use to moving.
I doubt I'll ever compare to 4 18's! I've never competed in or even been to an SPL competition, but I think it would be cool to go to one day and maybe test my car out.

well time to go back to the drawing board or do some more tuning i only hit 135.6 in dB drag over the weekend. ( at elast i beat my buddy who is running 12" CVR's rather than 10 and a bigger amp by a little over 1 db) im going to give in and do the upfiring like everyone else to see if that will gain a few db's.

I don’t compete like I used to years ago. But in 90 I had two Cerwin-Vegas 15 subs in a ported four c.f. enclosure powered by a (now out of business) RodeK 500 watt two channel amp. with a Kenwood source unit and a BBE 1 parametric crossover. This was all inside of a Chevy Astro van and it hit 50.1 db and would of taken 1st place at the sound off if the friggin sub hadn’t blew out on me in the finals, since it was ahead of everyone else top score. The judges we’re inspecting the setup looking for a “hidden amp” since they could not believe my system hit higher than everyone else. One truck had more than twice the subs and power (all Fosgate) and only hit 130.1 db... I do have a couple of brand new 15" Hollywood Sound Labs that I have yet to install in my box which are rated at 3000k WRMS. I just need to get an amp and build a box for them and I’m ready to compete again. I just don't want to tear up my ride with a pair of speakers. lol

^^^ its all in the way you build the box and the vehicle and wha tnot. my buddy proved that. he's losing 6db's because of his air space with 8-10's and hit only 2 db's less than an SUV with 12-10's running 4 amps and more power. so its all in how you set it up. that's why im working on flush mounting a box in the floor to upfire with the same set up. any pics of the old van?

no pics, sorry, it was a long time ago (1990). It was a Chevy Astro cargo van with just the driver and passenger seats. The box was a basic rectangle 4" dual ported per sub with a divider in the middle. The box made the subs pound the heck out of that van. I placed a some pocket change on the roof and they look like jumping beans on steroids.
