Default anyone have plans or measurements for an under the seat box?

I want to build my own box, just to see if I can....

I'd prefer to make it super stealth, and put it under the seat. I've seen a few people that have them, but was wondering if anyone could provide the plans for those boxes...

thanks in advance!

I am in the process of making my own underseat boxes for both the driver and passenger seats. There is some bending of brackets that need to be done but other than that I should have a how-to and pics up soon!

Ben,

thanks for replying to this thread. I thought it was a lost cause.

I've actually started building my own as well. I have bent the pax brackets, haven't done the drivers yet. It seems the drivers box may need to be a bit smaller than the pax, right?

Also, how are you dealing with the bracket coming up from the floor for the jack? Removing it? Any luck yet? I haven't really gotten into there yet...

Yeah I took out the seats and bent the brackets on the pass. seat up as much as I could and removed the little black box so it will just dangle until I get the box put in place. On the driver seat I drilled out the tack welds on the small bracket on the left side and removed it completely. The brackets coming up from the floor I just bent the rear one as flat as I could since I didnt want to remove it. The front piece should be ok. Both of my box measurements are the same for both sides since after removing the black bracket on the drive seat they have the same dimentions. Im also making about an inch of room under both boxes to run an extension on the heater vents, thats why I decided to bend the jack bracket down. Im building my boxes today and will let you know how they work out.

Nice. that's just about what i'm doing. I plan on removing both brackets. Hopefully this will keep the dimensions the same for me too.

I have about an inch of clearance under the boxes as well, but I was concerned about the effect the heat or extension pipes would have on the subs and box.

I'm considering just blocking them off, as I rarely have people in the back seats, and the cooling/heating system seems efficient enough to work throughout without them...

I'd love to see pics of yours, and i'll have pics of my prototypes today...

I'd be interested in seeing all this when its done. I was thinking of doing this a while back but have held off on doing a system in my box for now. Well thats cause I am working on some performance mods

Nice!

You went with 8's?? I went with 10's...

I have mine done and in, and they sound amazing. Granted, it's still in 'prototype' stage, so I don't have good subs in there, but even with the crappy 4 year old rockford fosgate 10's I'm happy!

I'll get pics tonight when I get home from work. I can't wait too see yours though!

Here are my dimentions and a bunch of pics I took today. The enclosures are not totally finished yet but they are done enough to use, it's just the final cosmetic things to finish such as footings, heater vent extensions, and carpet. I also have to either to some more bending of the jack brakets or just cut them off. I built the enclosures specifically for Rockford Fosgate Stage 1 8 inch subwoofers. They absolutely pound and I am not running full rms power to them!! The only thing I regret is getting 4ohm subs instead of 8ohm, my amp runs at 4ohm when bridged and I didnt realize that until I had already purchased subs, so now I cant give them the power I wanted too!!

Let me know what you think!! Or if you have any questions!!

does it vibrate on the seat? lol.. I want to do this real bad.. but I want to build my subs facing out towards the back seat... would I use the same demensions? but just slant the front so itll have like curbage? oh yeah and what is MDF board? and can u use just regular wood? os is that what that "MDF" board is? and if so, where can I find it?

Yes it vibrates the seats, kinda adds to the effect!! THe outside dimensions are the largest(without a very complex box) you can get the enclosure to be without getting in the way of the seat mechanisms. If you wanted to lose foot space in teh back you could make the depth of the box larger though. Yes you could slant the rear side of the enclosure. MDF board is Medium Density Fiberboard, you can get it at Home Depot or probably anywhere that sells wood. MDF board is the recommended material to use, particle board can be used but tends to chip and fall apart easily, plywood is a no-no!! And also, do not use anything less than half inch MDF board, 3/4 is recommended and with small boxes 5/8 could be used if need be.

ok. Here's mine.

These boxes are prototypes that I built to test space and sound.

The subs are reeeeaaaly old RF punch's that I had in my garage, and the wiring is still exposed because this was a test fit.

The dimensions are 7x14x14 with 3/4 inch MDF. This gives you roughly .5 cubes. I have em packed with polyfill to help offset the small size of the box.

I did have to bend/drill out some brackets. No biggie.

The vibrate the seat and windows very nicely, and they do hit really well. I am impressed with the sound, and see some great potential with better subs...

There is some excess 'punchiness' that I need to sort out. Not sure if it's a result of the box being so small, the crappy subs, or a combo of both. Some insight on that would be awesome!

i love this idea and have been thinking about doing it...but i have one question...what brackets are you bending? anything that is related to the seat itself? i don’t want to compromise the seat or seatbelt just to have some subs. they look awesome guys!

Nope. The ones i'm bending are the ones that hold the seatbelt/airbag sensors.

The seat rails and all that are completely intact. I wouldn't dare touch them...

Some of the newer subwoofer designs call for smaller enclosures, like this-

http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...products_id=29

Only .35 cF listed as the "ideal" size, meaning no bending of brackets, and even stealthier installation, with some foot room for rear seat passengers...

I'll let everybody know how it works out with my 7" ED baby subwoofer- external enclosure dimensions planned at 14"W x 7.5"T x 8.5D". Should slip right under either seat w/o any mods...
