Anyone put Bucket Seats in the Rear of their xB?
hey guys i wanna do away with the bench seat in my xB and some factory front buckets in the rear so i have a 4 seater. call me weird but its what i wanna do so i can build a custom speaker console down the center of my. since i cant put one in the rear trunk due to my air tank and compressors for my air ride. And if anyone has done this already let me know how it came out and what i need to do. thanks

Actually I run all corbeau buckets. But yes it is possible to run stock front buckets in the rear. However if you want to put a sub box between that that will be a problem, because the factory seats are rather wide... so you'd end up with only about 4-6 inches between the seats, not quite enough for a box. Sean Green (anxb2nv) did do the stock buckets in the rear. It required lots of cutting and fitting, some funky brackets and lots of trial and error. Aftermarket bucket seats are much easier to fab up some brackets for...and if you do what I did, you use smaller buckets in the rear to get a little more space between them. I have about 6-8 inches between my rear seats. Enough room to mount 2 Memphis Belle Amps on their sides back to back.

I bought my seats through a local custom interior shop... You're always welcome to check ebay and where ever else online for stuff... not sure of a shop in illinois.
The bracket was easy.
1. Take everything out of the back the car, spare tire, storage box, seats, stock rear cross bar.
2. Use the stock rear bar that bolts to the floor as your base.
3. Get some flat stock 2" wide x 1/4" thick steel.
4. With the seat removed, look to the front, there is a small hump/box with a nut reciever.
5. Cut the flat stock, you're going to make an H shape.
The H will weld to the stock rear cross bar. The cross bar in the H should go across the box with the reciever nut.
6. Make sure the side bars of the H are long enough and far enough apart for the seat to bolt to them.
7. Drill some holes, weld everything up.
8. Test fit!
9. Repeat for other side
10. Test fit again!
11. Paint the H_H
12. Bolt the seats to the H_H
13. Work them into the car (WATCH THE PAINT!)
14. Should probably have mentioned this earlier, but getting to that front bolt is really hard, make sure to get a seat with a hole for a 5 point seat belt or a removable bottom. Then reach into that hole and run the front 10 mm bolt into place. You're welcome to change this to larger hardware and box the ends of the box...would improve saftey.
15. Bolt the cross bar down.
** You may want to put little elastic holders on the side of the seats for the seat belt recepticals. If you try this yourself I am in no way liable for you taking this advice, the quality of the workman ship, design, or any resulting damage or injuries to you or anyone else as a result of this conversion.**
Enjoy!
