I have a generic OBDII scan tool. Bought it for the VW, and will use it on any upcoming issues with the tC. $75 at walmart.

I've used a program called VAG-COM, which is a PC-based application for VW tuning. Plugs right in, like the generic scan tool. I imagine that anything you buy will work fine.

Just be sure you get the correct cable to plug it into the serial port and OBDII port. That would be the only problem i could forsee.

Yea, I got the ICO (I think thats the right acronym) one from scantool.net. The software looks real cool and has a graphical interface that shows all your guages and more info. Im using it with a carPC system I am putting in, but will be the first time. There is software at autotap.com and scantool.net that is free, and there is another one that you can buy that will let you do quarter miles and give you all the specs which is cool, and I bet it will work with the setup you got. You should download the software and try it out.
thanks man, never knew they sold one at Walmart. I got mine off of ebay. They are $99 at scantool.net, but the same website sells them on ebay starting at $69 which is how much I got mine for.
If you try out the software, let me know how it goes
later

Downloading now.

I'm very interested to see how it all works. Sorta skeptical that it's free, but we'll know soon enough.

I own an autotappc adaptor tool which reads all generic parameters without an upgrade... however, I cant say I reccomend it. It works great once you get it set up for your car, but the people who wrote the software could have used a bit more code writing experience, they left out a lot of error trapping. The tool works, but the interface is just very touchy.

You must register to use the program, and you must use the cable that was supplied to you.

I guess that means it doesnt' work for all hardware. I thought all ODBII hardware was the same, it was just the software that was different, or how it used the data. I guess thats why its free, because you need their hardware.

Ill update when I get it up and running to see how it goes.
