here's a pic just to show how i set the level... this is going to be roscoe's mount.

i use dry foam blocks now, since it's easier to work with. i actually used shims on yours al, on mine it was just layer after layer of bondo. foam blocks are easy to shape by sanding them but they are very fragile. after putting about 2 to 3 layers of glass on it, it will be very strong.

also... i know some people were saying that one of the armrests out was too low, i can set the level higher on mine if need be. if you're taller i need measurements from floor to where you'd like the armrest to be. right now the level is set at appox. 14"

this is the lowest it can be set. if you need it an inch or two higher if you're taller i can set the level higher.

Thanks alot Al! :D

When you get some time can you get some shots of the back where it's wrapped and maybe the front of the armrest if you can manuever a camera down there. I've been saying wrapped for a long time, and no one knew what I was talking about. Might as well show them with yours since it's the first.

They color needs to be darker... it's too light a shade of grey in those pics.

Graphite color would look better IMHO

it pretty much matches the ebrake. you're looking at the seats and the armrest isn't black. the console in these cars is a faded black almost dark grey color and the armrest matches pretty close. It is a bit light, but it looks factory when in person. The sun in the pictures is just making it look really light in color.

That's a really good looking armrest! If I could make a suggestion regarding the height, the only thing that really affects the height is how thick your butt is, a taller person has longer arms so the elbow should hit almost the same spot. I think it would be wise to match the height of the armrests on the doors, that way you have a 1 size fits almost all solution. I'm very tall and by using a level with the door's armrest my center armrest works very well, and it fits my shorter passengers just as well. My 2 cents.

I've never used the door as an armrest except maybe the top where the window is. Feels awkward, plus xA is full plastic door, xB's at least have some fabric to make it more comfortable. I have to make these one at a time, might as well make them to order and what not. I'll have to measure it when I get home and see what mine compares to the door armrest. Thanks for the tip. What armrest you got by the way? JJP?

:D I have the Home Depot/JoAnn Fabric armrest. :D Homemade, works well for me so far. Your design looks much better of course, but I'm happy with the capacity I have and $12 was a good cost.

Is it possible to have a top and bottom mold for the design, and then some sort of spacer in the middle to adjust the height? Your design is top notch, if I wasn't poor I would definitely have waited and bought a professional looking design like this.

that's were i get my materials from, haha.

I tried the mold making bit... harder than it sounds/looks. It's not easy to make a mold and it is very time consuming. It's not so much that I need to make a mold for it because I use my console as the mold and cast from that, it's more of just that it takes time to fill and smooth. Fiberglass isn't smooth and perfect when you pull it out, you have to fill with bondo and sand, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, till you get it level by block sanding. If I made a mold it wouldn't really do me too much good since, sure it would make things go easier, but it's just the mold making is scaring me away from it. Right now, I can just set the level with dry foam blocks and just fiberglass over the foam and it works perfect like that. I can shape the foam to whatever I need by sanding it.

Default Armrest

Hey Todd,
How is my armrest coming? I hope it is getting close. Everyone seems to like your armrest best and after looking at all of them I agree. Just keep me up to date.
