Blaupunkt 7" drop down
Well, I've had it for a few months after getting it on sale at Fry's. Here's a short review:
Monitor: The monitor is the 7" model with built in cabin lights. They installed it so that the lights can be worked like the factory lights. The quality of the monitor is very good and it even has a small remote. My only negative comment is the latch. The latch is just a plastic tap that locks into the enclosure. It is not a button and the fit of the the monitor in the closed position is poor. While driving around, you get a buzz and rattle fromthe unit that is just plain annoying. The solution? I fabricated some rubber bump stops that add tension and solved the noise issue.
The picture is good and you can adjust brightness, sharpness, contrast, to suit your personal tastes.
The audio is heard via the stock radio and sounds great.
The Player: The player is the smaller of two that Fry's was selling and it was mounted under the front passenger seat. At first I really didn't like the way it was mounted, basically screwed to the floor, making it susceptible to being stpped on, but I found this black steel paper tray at Office Max and covered it with it. It doesn't lok too bad and is somewhat protected. It would have probably have been cooler to have it mounted in the dash, but that would have cost more. For now, it's cool.
Impressions: I think the 7" monitor size is good for the XB. When folded down, it doesn't really obstruct the rear-view mirroow, and the kid inthe back are able to see their cartoons. It's not fancy, but it get the job done and is pretty compact. Blaupunkt, I guess, makes quality stuff and it shows in the fit and finish of the player and monitor. Looks kind of stock.
