hmm.... okay.... just chimed in about the led deabte...
leds project light outwards and are very bright. however.. unlike traditional halogens.. they are mostly omnidirectional without the help of some reflectors or some type of optics.. (which can be be part of the led itself)
dustin.. i can take that bet for the interior leds being dimmer than halogens... and depending on the quality of the led and how many... it's no contest. leds will win.
you see.. you're thinking of traditional led replacement "bulbs" esp. when you were talking about the taillight situation.... since the taillight itself is made to reflect a halogen bulb.. sticking a crappy "led bulb" isn't going to do anything.
and for any stock led taillight.. it'll throw out about the same amount of light... just perhaps in a different manner.
in the situation of a dome light.. there isn't a reflector really.. but a diffuser. even if the led is very spotlight-ish in nature... having that diffuser is going to aid in that throwing out that light inside your car.
so overall.. in the end... it's brighter. and for the amount of power it uses.... oh yeah... throw in a few hundred leds in there and you still won't have any issues with running your battery down.
light/power ratio for led... unbeatable.

Why don't you consider coloring the inside of your dome light lens? With the original Festoon bulb ( OEM ) this might be a problem due to heat but LED's throw very little heat .
You should know going in that red light is the least visible waveband , your red LED from Pep boys would show that.

Squalheart... I'm not doubting you, but I am speaking from my experience. And though I have used those cheap standard bulb replacement LEDs, that isn't what I was speaking of.
My primary dealing with LEDs was with my Dodge Dakota. I shaved the stock tail lights and installed a double row LED on each side of my roll pan. the total length of the fixtures was 8" each. 6" of red LED (running, brake and turn) and 2" of white (back up). The LEDS I used came with a lexan lens, and no diffuser. And these weren't cheap ebay LEDs. They weren't even the cheap version offered by companies like FBI. I went straight to the best company out there at the time... Hi-Tech.
The results? The LED double row lights were WAY brighter than my stock tail lights. You could see these things forever. But if you were to look at the light they were actually throwing, it was minimal. With the stock tail lights if you were to apply the brakes everything behind the truck would have a soft red glow. Doing the same thing with the LED lights would throw a minimal amount of red light onto the back of the truck and some to the ground below.
Now this isn't to say I don't think they could have advanced the technology of LEDs since then. They very well could have. But I still haven't seen it for myself. If this company has found a way to incorporate a reflector, or some other way to focus the light in their favor, great.
Heck, if anyone has a link to a good article about the advancements being made in LED technology, I would love to read it.

I was trying to purchase a blue xb LED dome light from your website. I know you offer blue, but there is no option in your website that allows the customer to specify whether they want blue or white. It just says "add to cart" without adding any additional comments on the purchase. How would I be able to specify that I want blue?

Muhahahahahaha
It's IN. It's IN.
I'll have to wait for it to get dark before I do the Before N After Pics.
But I'll let y'all know how it goes, and how they look. and even post the pixs.

I got a couple pics on the sales thread here:

There are also a couple comments from those of us that have them. All reviews are very positive.

To be technically correct - LED => Light Emitting Diode.
LED can be of different intensities as well. The newer luxeon LED throw out some significant light, but they are expensive to buy - the luxeon LED flashlight with 3 AA battery puts out more light than my 2D cell Maglite. The cheaper LED probably don't put out a lot of light. The optics also makes a difference on the dispersion pattern or how the light is spread. I thought about making one myself, but it would be more expensive than buying one - the power of buying LED in bulk.
