cigarette lighter power splitter
i'm looking to hardwire a 2 way splitter into my lighter. that way i can have the splitter hidden behind the dash for my ipod and cell phone charger and still have a useable cigarette lighter up front. will this work ? will i have any problems power wise? i need teh stock cig lighter to work. any help is greatly appreciated.

hardwire a splitter? rather than doing that, cause that would be harder than its worth, just hard wire the cell phone charger and iPod adapter. all it will require is a ground and an ignition power wire (so that it wont kill the battery if you leave the device on) and an inline fuse. for the fuse, just put two female spade connectors in between each power wire and pop them on the fuse. you could hardwire the splitter, but youd have tocrack open the case and f*** with the wires. if you need more help with the hardwire, just let me know.

i don't see how it wouldnt be worth the work for the splitter. and i cant exactly crack open the case for the ipod charger since i'm using a fire wire charger.

i just installed an auxillary power port into the back of my armrest. got an extra cig lighter from walmart, ran the wires under the console, (be really careful around the parking brake cables), and tapped into the back of the stock cig lighter.
powerwise, and long as you use decent gauge wire and aren't drawing more than 15 amps you should be ok. i dont think that charging the cell phone and the ipod at the same time will hurt you too much.
