Default Door and Hatch Speaker Depth

Anyone have any idea what the front door and rear hatch area speaker depth is?
I want to upgrade the front speakers but I believe the speakers I'm getting might a little too deep.

www.crutchfield.com If you insert your vehicle information, it will show you a chart with the maximum speaker depth.

you will need to make baffles anyways, so as long as you use 1/2" MDF you should be alright. Just make the baffle, then a spacer ring and you have an extra 1" of depth. And IMO the spacer is necessary because without it, the speaker will look too sunk in...

Check this thread, pics & everything-

Tanakasan was even gracious enough to mail me copies of the templates. I haven't installed the speakers, yet, but I have confidence that it'll work for most speakers. You may or may not need the extension rings and plastic door ring removal, depending on speaker depth...

I agree with jmseals, I just re-used the factory tweeter and door speaker brackets, I also reused the factory stereo bracket and I am building a cedar compartment to fill the bottom portion of the double-din opening.

Cutting the factory speakers is quick and EZ but...

You won't get a good seal between your door and speaker. Won't sound as good as it could due to possible cancellation issues. And since it is is not as dense as MDF, it might have resonances, buzzing and vibration. Plus you don't have control over the front and back clearances like custom made MDF spacers.

Besides, you don't have the OEM pieces to stuff back in when you sell the ride!

Moisture? C'mon, ya gotta paint them (I like semi gloss black Krylon) or clear them, can't put them in RAW!

Yes, the templates should work for most speaks. Just need to resize the opening and double check the mounting depth. As drawn, they are 2x 3/4" MDF and were sized for eDi 6500's which are 2.8" depth.

I agree with Tana.

Im assuming that since your upgrading your audio, you want better sound. Why not go the extra step and make MDF baffles that will make you speakers sound good rather than have them sound like crap (comparitively) using the stock holder or the plastic stuff they sell on ebay. If you dont have the recourse to make your own, then contact Mandos on this forum. He is sales for eD and they can make you some for like $20-30 shipped...

^^They are a STEAL at that price!

I made mine, but would have been cheaper just to buy them finished.

The paint was for sealing and looks. I know, I'm the only one to see it but...

He hasn't logged-in for 13 years, I don't think you'll be getting an answer but any decent stereo shop should be able to make them for you.
