Dynamat & 2 inch Insulation on Roof to Keep Cool..
#4
Go to Home Depot and there is a section of insulation. I used the two inch insulation and instead of that expensive dynamat I used where they repair roofs in same store HomeDepot, It's like $15 for a huge roll and its just like dynamat! I did my entire car -4doors,roof,floor,rear side panel, back hatch. It took the road sound OUT by at least 98%. I put 3 coats plus insulation plus built a different hatch lid because I have my JL Audio 3 10W6's bumpin right at them. No shake rattle and roll outside the car. I had that! when you hear a car and all you hear is the plate or part falling off! I even did the doors inside and then outside removing the padding before door panel. Pics to follow!

I have bee thinking about doing this for a while becuase I do a lot of highway driving, and sometimes the noise is just unbearable unless I blast my stereo. Is there anyway you can do a write up on how to do this? Thanks.

The only problem with the roofing stuff is its asphalt based, instead of butyl based like Dynamat, eDead, etc.
Asphalt will lose its stickiness over the years, especially if you live in areas of temperature fluctuation like the north east. The roofs on these cars get exceptionally hot too, when baking in the sun.
If you browse some sound forums, there's no lack of horror stories. There's no denying it works - but you have to remember, insulation for roofs were designed for stationary houses, not moving vehicles and the constant vibration...

It's a couple years old but the results still hold true.

Nice job on the insulation. I live in Mississippi and have been thinking about insulating the roof of mu xB. My idea was to use the blown in insulation that is used in the attics of homes.
Any ideas on my idea?
thanks, Michael
