Default Stinger Alternators

Stinger located here in Fla tested a high output alt on the Spidy xB. They created all the brackets and everything. His stereo rocks with this thing with no voltage drop.It should be available now try www.stingerelectronics.com

Sweet, will you have it ready to go to NOPI in Ga? Mines all tore apart again. Went with Cadence Daytona amps Zx components and triple x 4ohm subs w/ anew fiberglass box. We one at Sibling Rivalry with the old design but Nopi is a whole different story. We also will be featureing the all new xB bolt on 90 degree door hinges that I developed for Autoloc. Will be taking orders for those at the show.

The stock alternator output is 90 amps, I am drawing about 60 amps worth of it with my stuff and have had no problems thus far. You, however are probably running it to its limits. All I have to say is get off the highway when the headlights start to dim because your battery isn't charging any more, that can be quite unpleasant.

Mine don't either. I meant I had an alternator burn out in another car because my gear taxed it to much. To make a long story short, I'm left-laning at 80 mph and everything electrical in my car starts "not working" and suddenly I'm stranded in the median.

Wouldnt a capacitor be an option for this situation

Not really, capacitors provide large amounts of power very quickly. They are more or less a battery with extremely short charge and discharge times. Large amplifiers still draw the majority of their power from the battery while the capacitor will pick up the slack during transient peaks. The alternator still has to work to keep battery juice up while all of this is happening. If your headlights dim during hard bass notes or whatever, then a capacitor will help. It won't protect your alternator though. I've always been told that the total of the fuse ratings on all your stuff should never exceed what the alternator puts out. An installer I worked with years ago always told his customers to have 1.5 times the alternator output of your amps drawn power (i.e. 60 amps of fuse ratings = 90 amps of alternator)

I'm running the same total power as you and have been for quite some time, it sounds fine, lights never dim and I'm using four 1farad caps(not as a replacement for a alt). Today I looked at the battery and the negative post is corroding pretty bad. I'm taking the big amps out and dropping the power way down, from 1600watts down to around 700watts. I don't have the money right now to buy a large enough alt to supply the current needed. Alot of power is nice but not really necessary to build a loud system.

Also spinning a large alternator robs power, and as we all know, the xB has very little power to spare.

Not quite accurate. Alternator will put more load on the engine when you draw more current out of it.

If you aren't drawing currrent from it, both standard and high output alternators will not use too much engine power. But when you turn on your audio gear and other devices in your car, aany alternator will consume more engine power

IIRC, 1hp = 746W. So, if you put a 746W load on your alternator, it will rob your engine of a bit over 1hp.

And what is the point of having a large audio system if you don't listen to it? Furthermore, why have a high output alternator if you don't listen to the large audio system? I don't know about you, but if I needed a huge alternator then I am sure my engine would have to spin it and therefore lose some power. When you say that alternators don't suck power from the engine, you are right. When you say they take power when under load, that is obvious. But that is the whole point. If you need one, you will likely be loading it down.

Right.
And even a 1200W audio system running at full power would only rob the engine out of 2-3 hp. So, that is one such a big deal. Drive it loud!
