Default How to install a Temp Gauge??

Forgive me if this is way basic, but I really don't know much about this stuff. I would like to possibly install a temp gauge in the xB to keep an eye on things during long, hot summer trips.
That stupid idiot light just wont do. If I buy a gauge from an autoparts store, how hard is it to install and connect? What all is involved for water temp gauges?

Thanks!

the temp gauge is no more than a thermometer w/a nice needle display;

the temp gauge you'd get at an auto store should have a temperature bulb on the back end (on a long hose/cord) and if it's lighted, a set of wires for lights.

the other way to do it is to get a digital temp meter, they're easier to run and more accurate;, but digital never offers that "at a glance" feeling that needles give

installing is pretty simple, either make a section of hose w/a hole/port for the temp sensor, or cut a small hole and insert it w/a hose clamp...there are many ways to do it; im sure Google will hold more answers than me

POST PIX! when you;re done; i plan to add a temp gague as well (you're right, those idiot lights suck)

Thanks for the info crayonBOX. It doesn't sound too complicated. The only part I'm afraid of it inserting the temp probe into the water system. I wouldn't know the best place for accuracy, or how to do it without risking a hose rupture.

Thanks. I actually did do a search, but I didn't see those threads. I guess I didn't type in the magic words.

Go to eBay and type in Scion xB and you will find all kinds of neat gauge pods and then type in gauges and you will find tons of them.
DO NOT buy a piece of poopie gauge.

Matt AC Autotechnics makes an adapter that you cut your return radiator hose (the top one and put the adapter in and then you would attach your temp sending unit to it and the wires would run back to where your guages are. I purchased mine from www.scionsport.com. the water temp adapter was like 20 bucks. they also make an oil pressure adapter which is around 50 bucks I think. I haven't installed mine yet but I will hopefully be doing them soon. I just have to order my guages

Those are really good adapters from AC, you might also want to check out www.egauges.com for some nice gauges.
