HU=mono sub out, but my Amp=RCA (+/-) ?????
my new HU only seems to have a mono sub out. There are normal left right termanls for the front and rear. should i just use those for my sub????

so the sub preout doesnt have a red and white output? weird. reminds of the HT sub preouts where it only has one output...
are you missing any sort of adapter that makes the one output into two. when I had my Pioneer HU, it was advertised as F/R/S preouts but one of the preouts was simply a dinky adapter that hung from the HU and allowed you to plug in a 3rd set of RCA's.
Specific info on your equipment might help...

A single sub only requires one RCA cable if it it run on a mono amp. If you wire a two channel amp down to one chanel you should only need one input. When you have a pair of RCA cables the red and white are not positive/negative. Both colors have a positve and negative. The male post on the RCA end is the positve and the "shield" around the post is the negative. Depending on how many subs you are running and the wirining configuration you chose for the sub(s) you souldn't need the Y adapter. You can wire the sub/subs at different ohm levels and you should be able to use only one "mono" RCA cable.
I've always found Y adapters to lower the sound quality.

Not that I'm expert, but I think that if you're using a mono sub amp, you don't need a y adapter, even if the amp has left and right inputs- the signals would be combined by the amp's circuitry into a mono signal, anyway. I suspect it would be the same using a stereo amp in bridged mode, too...
Amps and HU's usually have pretty good manuals- even if you bought the equipment used, the manuals can often be found online...

A mono amp may require both inputs to get an adequate signal level. It just depends on the design of the amp. I have a home sub amp that doesn't do much with just one input so I put a Y adapter on it and it made a world of difference.
Also check Radio Shack or some other electronics shop if you look for a Y adapter. That price on Ebay including shipping is way too much.
