Incomplete components, can they be installed?
I got two 6.5 inch boston acoustics components without the tweets or crossovers and would like to use them. Questions are:
Will the crossovers be hard to replace, must I use Boston Acoustics crossovers, can I use another brand, can I use a different type, possibly a california active cross or the amps cros?
I know I can find tweets easily but replacement crosses have been more elusive. I have another complete set (2 speakers and the cross) in the mail to use when it arrives however I intended to put both set in eventually.
Wanna also recommend a class D amp (for effecient use from the original electrical system) for these one/and/or two sets of 20 to 400 watt Boston Acoustic Pro Series components. With possible addition of 2 posssible JL 12's later down the road.
You may see that I will be building this up in increments rather than the whole thing at once also. I have a habit of spending all my spendable income on records first and anything else (soap, groceries) second.
Line level converters or rca outputs onto the stock pioneer 6 cd joint? I have seen the instructions for adding them for use with subs, but not for use with components. Is this a different but same kinda thing here or is it truely different.
Is there a real need to swap the stock pioneer? I like what it does and don't really need any other features besides rca outs. Not keen on spending another few hundred just to have rca outs though. And if I were to replace the HU then it'd cost me another 2K for all the DVD screen and all that to make it worth it. I just wanna hear my music LOUD for now, nothing more. So again I not keen on upgrading the HU because I don't have the 2k for a replacement I would find a reason to replace it for, you dig?
Any how thanks in advance for reading my post, and thanks for any replies.
Peace and Respects,

Yes you can use whatever crossover and tweet that you want, BUT your speakers are designed play with their passive crossover rather than another brand. A lot of things can get effected by this, mainly sound quality and power handling. Personally I would try to find the components that fit your system.
As for class-d amps... Those are mainly designed for Subs...Just because of it distortion level. Xtant does have a class d, mid and highs amp, but its pricy. I would stick with a standard a/b for the mids and highs.
Line level controller can be installed like you were going to do subs. You are just converting a hi level output into a low level output. The wiring is identical.
As for the HU replacement....Personally I think its better. You get better sound quality out of a aftermarket headunit..You know what they say..Garbage in garbage out.

Oh yeah, sound quality.
You see all I listen to are mix cd's I have recorded from my turntables (read records) into my computer and burned to play in the car.
Considering my original source is vinyl I never hoped to have extreme clarity in playback. So the sound quality arguement for replacing a head unit doesn't quite apply here I think. But I could be wrong, its possible right.

Like he said you could use any crossover and tweeters I Have CDT component in my car and the crossovers come with out put for 2 pair of tweeters and the woofers so I ran cheap tweeters to the extra tweeter output and it sounds good but the another set of CDT's would sound better.
As for the amps like he said the class d are normally used for sub amps as you know the lower the OMH load and the lower you go the more power it puts out most class D amps will blow you components when you finish adding all of the speakers and sub you are talking about...
However the alpine V-12 amp and a few other companys sell true 5 channel amps even though they cost more it will be more than enough to run all your speakers. I have customers that have a v-12 pushing the 2 back 6X9 the front 6.5 and 2 8ohm 12 inch JL's and his car sounds great.
Lastly as I said I have components in my Box and I can honestly tell you the factory does not play after market components loud for Sh*t

Thanks first off.
I intended to do that as a last resort. What I had in mind and didn't mention was something I could just do myself on the internet. I spend enough time here as it is and thought there would be site for this as there is for gosh darn everything else imaginable, at the fingertips of someone more well knowledgeable. You know the deal.
thanks again tho
