installed Kenwood FM Modulator (KCA-20FM )
i brought the Kenwood FM Modulator today from bestbuy and installed it in my wife's xB. (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-TF5HFup...p?i=113KCA20FM, bestbuy does not have it listed on the website)
thanks to sithscripter for the post on Head Unit/Dash Removal: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...hlight=removal
it is 10 times better than a wireless FM Modulator and it works pretty good connected to a dvd player. i connected my brother's Ipod to it and it too worked pretty good. i did notice a faint feedback noise when you press the gas while driving, but that was with the dvd player, i did not have a chance to drive it with the Ipod attached.
quality is about equal to a good/strong signal radio station. when the FM modulator is on, no radio stations come in (at least they did not on mine). when the FM modulator is off, all radio station come in perfectly.
the FM modulator is sitting to the right of the stereo behind the right center vent. i zip-tied it to a cable there. the wires were long enough so i did not need anything other than: 1 wire connected (to crimp the power cable to the power switch), and 2 squeeze connectors (to tap the power and ground from the lighter, i am too lazy to splice it the old fashioned way, and no electrical tape needed). i ran the power switch thru this panel:
and i ran the rca inputs thru this panel:
now i just need to cut the panel to fit the power switch, and i have no idea what to do with the rca inputs. for now i just placed the power switch and the rca inputs behind the panels and pop the panels off and dig them out with my finger when i need to use it (we will only use the dvd player for road trips and such, so i may just leave it this way).
anyone wanting to do this, go for it. i am horribly sub-par when it comes to car audio installations and things, but it was pretty easy, and i did it in the dark (well, with the cabin light on)
anyone know what i can use to cut the plastic panels (perfectly) so i can add the power switch next to the fog light switch and passenger airbag indicator? and so it looks professional and clean?
