Installing Headrest Monitors
So I got my headrest monitors in the mail today. I cut up the headrest, fit the monitor and everything LOOKS great. But I dont know how to wire it up.
It has a ground and +12v wire. I obviously know where the ground goes but I dont know where the +12v goes. I tried connecting it to the remote wire from my amp in the trunk but the monitor wouldn't turn on.
Is there a specific +12v that Im supposed to be tapping into? I thought that my remote wire would have sufficed since its connected to the ACC wire behind the HU and that wire is +12v.
Any help from the audio/video people?

actually, after looking at the xB wiring diagram again, my remote wire is connected to the grey "radio switch" wire in the radio harness. i dont think its actually a +12v source.

Try connecting it to a +12V constant. See if it turns on. If it does, then you can connect it to a remote/switched wire. If not, then something else is wrong.
Just some basic diagnosing.
Post some pics too!

if you look at this thread:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...wiring+diagram
should I connect the +12v to the blue/yellow wire. It says that the blue/yellow is a 12v source. I know my iPod Adapter is connected to that wire ( I didnt connect it there, an installer did, I saw the connections when installing my rca's and remote). When I installed the iPod adapter for my Pioneer HU previoulsy, it said that the power wire needed to go to a constant 12v, which would have been the blue/yellow wire, but I connected it to the gray wire anyways and it sill worked. Im probably confusing everyone now, but Im not sure where I should be getting the +12v for the monitors...

blue/yellow is the constant 12V (this has power even when the car is off).
You want the gray (switched 12V).
I suggest to touch the monitor wire to the blue/yellow to make sure the monitors work (since you are having trouble with them), then wire them up to the gray.

Here's a quick pic with my camera phone:
They are nice monitors. I know that they are far from the best in terms of quality but they are strickly for shows/ showing off and for the occasional trip where someone might be sitting in the back. the picture quality, from what i read, is kinda pixelated but like i said, this is mainly just to show off. I have my 6600 up front which is more important to me in terms of picture quality.
And thanks WhiteBlazer. I went out again after you confirmed that it should be hooked up to the gray wire. Sure enough they worked this time. Now I just have to install the second one and run my wiring.

yeah, i wanted to do it like that guy posted but i couldnt get the monitor into the bracket for the life of me. I was about to give up and decided to see what it looked like with everything out. Since they are only 5.8" monitors, they actually still fit within the edges of the headrest. I have an extra headrest so i might try to do it with the bracket in the headrest but I dont think it looks that bad how it is now. i thought it would def look worse how it is in the picture. also, in the picture, the monitor still has the protective film. thats why the screen looks weird.

I cant' bring myself to cut a hole in the seat.
I did find that i could whittle down the plug so that it would pass into the post-hole in the seat, but still will not pass thru the post. I'm thinking what I will do is cut down the right post to about one inch or so, and then cut a trough in the post that will accept the wire. I will then feed the plug end thru the hole in the seat, and then fit the post into the hole to hold everything steady.
I have yet to find the right tool to cut the trough in the post.

yeah, i feel you on not wanting to cut into the seats. i might just have to cut though because i dont have the skills to attempt your idea. i mean, if the hole is small enough and right next to the circular plastic piece, it cant be that bad right? lol. im still trying to mad scientist something though.
I also cant figure out how to run all the wiring without it being visible. prob just going to have to lift the carpet up a little bit and snake it to where i need it to go.
Have you though about just cutting the connector off and splicing the wires?

you know, I have thought about that, but i haven't a CLUE how to terminate a plug like that. I guess by whittling it down as i have, I could see where the wires 'pin up' and then hack off the male connector that meets up inside the seat...
but the really big issue i see at THAT point is how in the world would i make all those connections once I have the wires inside the seats? I suppose i'd want to feed the recieving cables up thru the post hole first, fix it all up and then push it back into the seat...
I can't for the life of me find a hole in the top of the post itself in which to feed the wire, even if it DID fit. hmmm.

yeah, just feed the wires up the seat, make your splices and then stuff it back down. during my attempt to have the bracket inside of the headrest and the screen outside, i pulled a little to hard on the wire and some of the rubber came off. it just looks like the connector is there to make installation "easy." I have a green, red, black wire and the rca wires. the only splice I could see having problems with is the rca connections. im going to look at the connector a lot closer when i get home from work tonight. maybe i will cut the connector off?
