JL or Memphis
Between the 2 (looking at amps & subs), which would you go with? Which has a better price/performance ratio?
Please do not recommend any other brands. I just want to know between the 2.
Thanks for input.

thanks.
well, i want loud, but i am more concerned with quality. i want it to hit hard, but not have that over-emphasized rap bass sound.
i want it to be punchy not boomy. i don't listen to rap, mostly metal.
so would you recomment a sealed or ported enclosure my my listening style?
how about opinions on the amps?

the boominess has to do with the box you put the subs in. both are great companies but with memphis you get what you pay for their bottom line is ok but their high end stuff holds their own. most people don't know much about them cause the don't sell their stuff online, but they do offer a nice warrenty. jl has great stuff but its expensive.
litsening to them is probably the best thing to do then compare prices.

So you really need to ask yourself what your price/ budget is then pick product that will do the job you are looking for. You will get ten dozen suggestions. My advice
is listen to both compare product in the same price range then you can make a choice

i have had memphis in my last two cars one had (4) 10" subs and the other had (2) 12" subs and i also had only memphis amps and components. it is by far the best. memphis also delivers a better bass off low wattage so your not constantly draining your battery. i have seen and heard all types including jl and memphis is a lot better quality. it is harder to find but it worth searching!

JL will generally be better sound quality wise. Meaning it'll hit quicker and more accurately.
From my experience JLs from the W#-W7 will knock your socks off given the right enclosure and plenty of power.

JL all the way I'm running a 250/1 and 300/4 and they are great sounding amps you will pay for the quality. There subs are also very nice I use to have 2 JL 10w0 and they slammed and there not that expensive. If you want crazy sql w6 or w7 w6 can be used with a smaller box.

Well, I just wanted to get opinions on the 2 brands. Of course I will listen before I buy, but nothing ever sounds the same when you get the stuff installed in your environment. So I just wanted a general consensus.
OK, I'm gonna open another can of worms. What is the average one should expect to pay for a full system intalled. I'm looking to get a DVD head unit (probably the Kenwood DDX7015), replace all of the stock speakers, 2 10" subs and of course amps to power it all. I know the range can vary greatly, but I just want an idea of what I should expect.
Thanks everyone for the input.

I would suggest JL from experience.
In a sealed enclosure.Maybe 2 10's or 2 12's.
There is as much advice about audio as there is advice about diff cars.
Diff experiences.
All depends on the setup. What sounds good in one car may not in another.
You could have a JL setup in a car, change everything to Memphis, and not be satisfied.Could go the other way too.
To many variances.Go with yer ears.

Thanks for all of the input.
I got my system installed on Friday. I love it!!!!
I went with the Kenwood DDX7015, Focal compontents in the front, 2 JL 8" (8w3v2)subs in custom built enclosures under the front seats and a JL 500/5 to power the whole thing (mounted in the rear storage compartment next to the spare). I left the stock speakers in the rear, but I may replace them soon (they sound surprisingly good when powered by the JL amp). I also had RCA input jacks (audio & video) installed near the parking brake so I could plug in audio & video sources such as my iPod.
The whole setup is steath. The only piece of equiptment visible to the eye is the Kenwood DVD player.
It sounds amazing for such a minimal install. The 8's hit hard and are very punchy (I don't listen to rap, so the 8's are perfect for me). They will play surprisingly low, though. The Focals are crystal clear.
Anyway, just thought I'd share the end result with you.
Thanks again.
