Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 *Updated*
Okay, so has anyone noticed that Kenwood is revamping their web site? Possibly to promote some of their new products....
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/PDF/Car_Excelon_2005.pdf
It looks like the new Excelon DVD Double-Din HU (DDX8017) is going to include 5.1 DSP. Cool.
I e-mailed them with some questions to find out more info - release, price, etc. I'll be sure to let you all know if I hear anything.
Anybody else know some more about this new HU? Google returns zero results.

If Kenwood is doing the same thing that pioneer did (using a built-in gyro for the new AVIC-N2 unlike the old N1), then those who want to play DVDs in the DDX8017 while moving might not be able to like the DDX7015.

So Kenwood got back to me some time last week. Here's some news I have...looks like we can expect to see this next month (July).
Sounds like it'll be a good update!

Thank you for writing to us at Kenwood USA Corporation.
In regards to your inquiry, the major differences between the DDX8017 and
the DDX 7015 is the Graphic User Interface(GUI) and the DDX8017 has a built
in surround sound processor. The GUI for the DDX7015 was kind of plain with
solid colors and somewhat boring button setup. The new GUI is designed to
resemble the GUI of the KVT-915DVD, it looks more impressive graphically and
the cosmetics look nicer. The DDX8017 does not need any additional
equipment in order to be set up for 5.1 Surround Sound, you simply need to
add a center channel speaker and it is ready to work. The DDX8017 is
expected to be released in July and the MSRP is 2000 dollars. If you have
any more questions about this unit you can call our tech support line at
1-800-KENWOOD ext. 1420.
If you have any further questions or need help with anything, please feel

I doubt the will have a gyro in the new Kenwood since the only reason to have one is for navigation. Unless kenwood starts making an all in one unit like the Pioneer with navigation built in I dont thing you need to worry...
