as for the size of the box needing to be extremely big... it's because one L7 moves the same amount of air as 2 12" diameter subs
KiL did get a slammin deal via ebay auction... obviously ... if a dealer buys an assload of the same sub, the wholesaler can usually cut a better deal

First, ge the cone area, in this case we'll assume that all 12" subs measure 12" in either diameter or in the squares case, height and width. Then, multiply it by X-max. (we'll do one way to be fair)
Now, take the L7, 12" x 12" = 144sq/in x .5" excursion... we get 72cu/in swept volume for one L7.
Now, lets take for example, an RE HC12.... Pi(6x6) = 113.04 and the excursion is 21mm which is 0.826771654" = 93cu/in swept...
The RE also handles more power, and is cheaper (retail) and IMO has a better warranty.
Not to mention, it sounds a whole hell of alot better and gets MUCH louder.

one of our sc3 member is also sponcored by RE, he only has one fifteen and also hit real hard. He has a huge ported box, probably in the area of 3.5 cubic feet and it is built from 1 " hdf. his box does not flex. His screen name is vegasscion. I myself am running a 7 year old infinity Kapppa in walmart prefab, that I sealed liked fish tank, using kicker seperates, also seven years old. And A nine year old autotek 9100 with hand built 18db per octave passive crossovers. My 100 watt amp wieghs 13 lbs and has 4 guage inputs. Love te old stuff, much respect for the new stuff. Lets not bag on each other stuff. We all have different taste and styles. Bill
