im in the process of wiring my alpine cva-1005 and i ran into a problem. ive seen how people put their DVD players in the storage compartment in the center console, but for some reason i guess the alpine 7892 is too tall and a little too wide. has anyone had to cut the back of the compartment to fit their deck in. also, does anyone have experience bypassing the brakes so that i can have the video playing while driving. anyone in the bay area have some time to help me out?

you do have to cut the back off. but it will not get you much (1/2" to an 1") and you'll have to custom mount it in there as it is not meant to fit a radio.
the brake thing is easy. just ground that wire (you can ground it with the ground wire from the radio) watch it whenever you want then.
you can do a search on this as it was discussed before and will have more info.

A while ago we did a CVA-1005, we ended up putting in two momentary switchs, or some such, so we could do their "pattern".
It wasn't hard and I think we only did it to reduce our liability (was at CC then). You should be able to just ground out the safety wire.

My Alpine bypass (cva-1003) was purchased from Peripheral Industries. The model is the PTR-7. It is all automatic, and has no ugly switches. It also works 100% of the time, not some of the time like some shoddy ones. I really like it, I mean, my passengers really like it. I'm kinda ____ed becuase after all that cash for the headrests, most people just watch the screen in the dash. What's up with that? By the way, that bypass looks really complicated to install. The instructions are pages and pages because that piece is a "oem integrator" meaning it can do lots of stuff. My installer had no problem with it though. He just said it was time consuming.

i have the switches done. i have a toggle for the e-brake and a momentary for the foot brake, is this right? and does anyone know the sequence that i need to use to get the safety off. when i use the toggle, the screen will switch off, but then it comes back but its still in safety

to bypass the alpine screens, it's easier to run the foot brake wire to a switched 12 v source and connect it to a toggle, and the parking brake wire to ground with a toggle...
then just do the magic swithch dance to get it to play...
