I have heard problems before if you don't finalize cd on Nero, sometimes it plops out coasters, but other than that Nero as data disk, and sometimes it helps if you let it determine maximum speed...

I never finalize my discs. I've burned 3 more times to the one I'm using in my car. Still works perfectly. As for the difference between Nero 5 and 6, there's MUCH more DVD support and there's an option to make a miniDVD using just a regular CD I think. I guess there's not much difference if you're just using a regular CD burner, but because I have a DVD burner, there's no turning back. A GREAT program for messing with any kind of audio file is Adobe Audition. It used to be called Cool Edit Pro, but I guess Adobe bought them out. Anyhow there's a free trial on their website and you can do all KINDS of stuff with your wav's, mp3's, etc.

simple to do

1. right click the audio file on your comp
2. put your pointer over "send to..."
3. send to your cd-r drive (mine is the E drive)

it will give you a status window saying copying to..., after that it will prompt you saying files are waiting to be written to cd in your lower left hand corner (all of this assuming you are using XP), you can click that or just open up the drive through "my computer". and click "write these files to cd". it really helps to organize the music into folders on your hard drive. All of the software to do this comes with your operating system, but if you look, the burning software is provided by roxio. kinda funny that they still sell so much software and so many people just use it to burn cd's. gotta love marketing.

I've been using iTunes since Apple released the Windows version and it's just about the most convienent application to do this with. If you want one program that will let you rip, listen, buy, organize, share and burn, all in one easy to use package, this is the one to get. And of course, it's free.

Ok I have a question. What type of media are you burning on? CD-R or CD-RW? I'm having problems with CD-RWs. Keep getting the dumb 'NO DATA DISK' with CD-RWs. It seems to work fine with CD-Rs. I'm using Nero 5 and creating disks as data discs.

i use cdex to convert or rip mp3 and burn with adaptec never had a problem yet

I use both CD-Rs and CD-RWs. It almost seems like the CD-RWs work better, at least so far...

Here's a service that will convert your entire CD collection into MP3 files and returns them to you on data DVDs. I haven't used them, but may consider it in the future.

I fixed it. I had to lower the write speed for CD-RWs and now it it works fine. Thanks for the input from everyone.

has anyone had a problem where you burn a whole disc but the head unit can only play a few of the tracks?
i'm using roxio to burn the disc. any help would be most appreciated.

i belive in the older version like 5.5 of nero and befor you had the option to burn in ISO 9660 or "Mode 1" both of those options will work for the pioneers head unit that and your discs would be compatible with Sony, ///Alpine, and most of the others wheneevr i checked a instruction booklet for a aftermarket HU it almost always suggests a "short tree" burning type like ISO 9660 or Mode1 which in most programs is there data disc default setting

iTUNES seems to do a fine job for me, it also will print Cd covers as well. Just make sure your preferences are set to burining an MP3 cd, not AIFF AUDIO or AAC. Separates the folders and all. Also, ROXIO TOAST is great for this. I think both of these programs are available regardless of operating system and iTUNES is free. Personally, I recommend using CD-R's not CD-RW's. CD-RW's aren't really intended for this kind of use.

Another vote for iTunes. Works perfect, everytime, with 0 configuration.

The only thing I need to do for 100% compatibilty is convert the ID3 tag version down so the stereo can read them.

Not sure the PC version does this, but I go to the advance/get cd track names in the mac os menu. All the name are then added and they show up on the stereo. Track names, album and artist all there.

I really like the stock stereo's MP3 abilities. Burned 169 of my favorite songs on 1 cd

I use Roxio Creator Classic on "MP3 CD Player Disc" mode, works like a charm with the folders.
