Default MTX 8500??

What opinions do you guys have on this speaker? I was plannng on getting this sub along with the Sledge Hammer enclosure. I currently have a JL 500/1 amp. Please give feedback. If not please provide me with a better option. I have a budget of 300 dollars.

Everyone has an opinion and oftentimes it's like talking politics when it comes to subwoofers, but since you mentioned this particular model...

I also was looking at the 8500, did a lot of research on the web and basically determined that they were decent, but didn't seem to get a huge vote of confidence from many people. So, I spent more time looking into what would work better for me. I ended up going with IDQ12D4 from Image Dynamics. (http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/). This sub fit within my space and money constraints and rates very well from all of the discussions I had and could find online.

I listened to both the 8500 and some different IDQ subs (and a few other vendors) and I felt that the IDQ provided much better SQ for the system I am trying to make.

Good luck,
B-

well for the 300 budget the 8500 is a nice choice. but you can prolly get a better sub for little or no more money than that. still its a nice sub.

Great thanks for the feeback on that. One more thing. I was looking at a box with 3 MTX tens with the sledge hammer box. What do you think of this powered with my same amp? Here is the link to item.

I can give a DAMN about going deaf. I have had 300 watts sound good to me so I have no need for 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000 watt system. GET OUTTA HERE!!!!!!!!

I am asking for opinions not stupid comments.

Yeah, I'd take efficiency over power handling any day.

that sledgehammer box will sound really nice with your amp. As a matter of fact i just did the same exact setup last week for one of my customers. Tho my opinion is biased (i am one of the biggest MTX dealers in the boston area, and the only authorized 9500 dealer). Basically you'll be happy with that setup. But i do recomend getting a different amp if possible, only because i've seen a crapload of JL amps go bad this past 6 months, majority of them are still fine. But the return rate for them isn't exactly good. The 1501D mtx amp would be a great subsitute, mtx also has a newer 1501d replacement on this years model but i don't know the exact model off the top of my head. Either way good luck with your choice(s).

Great, but are you talking about my original option or my second option with the 3 MTX 10s?

Have a website btw?

I am still a bit confused on what to get. 1 8500 MTX w/ the Sledge Hammer enclosure or the 3 MTX 4500 w/ the Sledge Hammer enclosure? Once again running with the JL 5001/1 Amp Just in case it is relavent I listen to hip hop music.

I am guessing you mean I will get more highs than bass with the 3 subs?

if you listen to hiphop get a 12 or 15....that way you can hit lower bass.......there are exceptions with 10's...but generally you'll get better sounding low bass from the 12 or 15

I have always been an MTX fan right now im running an MTX Thunder801D and an MTX T7512-44 on a vented box. all I can say is im happy with this set-up cause it acutally leaves me some trunk room. One thing about the sledgehammers are that they are heavy but if you don't care I would go for the 3 sub sledge (just don't for get to check your measurement if it fits your ride)

Here's a pic of my 7500

Alright great! Here is the plan. I will get 1 8500 for now with a Sledge Hammer Box. When I get more money if I am not satisfied with 1 12 I will get the second one and run them both off of the JL 500/1 Amp.

look man. what do u want to u want SQ or SPL? thats what you need to ask your self. If you want SQ than go with the IDQ they may sound better but i dont think so. but if u want SPL go with the MTX 9500. The 8500 are a step down but are stil as good. And as in 3 MTX 10s u might fit them in the back. as for that amp dont use it sell it . this is that u should do if u dont want to lose that much space. use one 8500 being push by a little 801D that little amp give u aboout 800w of power. i know this cause i help put that same set up in a 300 z and it hit hard. We where in the shop and the wall where shaking. with the 3mtx 4500 u have a total of 650 w rms, but i have three subx and with the 8500 u get 500w rms but u have ont and should hit harder and u pay less at the end. Be like me i am going with one 9500 12s being puish by a MTX 942 amp still dont know or i just go with 2 8500 12s with a 1501D amp. the reason i havent pic is cause i dont konw if i have to any space. All of them shoud hit in the mid to high 140s or even low 150

Man just my 801D with the 7512 running at 2ohm hits hard enough(for me) i wonder what 2 8512 with a 1501 would do to my panoramic moonroof hehehe nice choice vitcraul.

what's the rms on the JL 500/1? will it have enough juice to power 2 8500s?

The rms on the JL 500/1 is 500 RMS. But some claim they are actually a bit more.

its 500 rms at 12.4 volts i think. at higher voltage you can get upwards of 750 rms
